D with this one. Had is wrong here. Main thing facing is parallel with rising :)

E here as well.

Present tense required. Hence 'Have' instead of 'Had'.
Participle form is a no-no in combination with 'Had' or 'Have'.
Finally, 'have retired...face' - parallel verb forms.

'rising' is an adjective here, not a verb!!

I would go E.

retire and face should be in parellel since they both are verb.
Also the the sentence in about recent study means it is in the present and nowhere it is indicated the doctors retiring has ended.. hence Have is corrrect ..

Retiring seems to indicate that the doctors are still in the process of retiring. They should have elected to retire before the study shows the information right? So present perfect is right here.

the "to" is understood and not explicitly written.

C is incorrect b/c

"rather" is used to compare verbs and also for preference

"instead" is used for nouns and primarily to denote replacement.

(E) for multiple reasons:

1. doctors... have... correct SV
2. to retire ... (to) face ... parallel and correct use of ellipsis
3. rather than is almost always favored over instead of when comparing actions
4. actively phrased
