Hi,

I am applying to business school for 2008 and am trying to decide where to apply. My father attended Columbia Business School and I was wondering how big of an effect this will have on my Columbia application. Also, I currently have a masters in biomedical science. Will this hurt or help me in my pursuit to change from a science research related career to a career in pharmaceutical finance or marketing? Thanks

Having a father who attended can't hurt.

The Masters in Biomedical Science is great essay material for your career goals. It lets you talk about how you have the foundation to understand the industry and the technology, but require the business acumen to learn how to make the magic happen.

I think at most schools it will only help significantly if your father is a substantial donor.

Thanks for the insight. Now all I have to do is get a 700 on the GMAT!

As others pointed out, both the factors you mentioned are only going to help you with your admissions.

If I were you, I write something about how you have observed the Columbia Alumn Community being a part of ur dad's professional career. It shows your first-hand experience with this community, which means a lot to any school.
