Hi,
I am applying to business school for 2008 and am trying to decide where to apply. My father attended Columbia Business School and I was wondering how big of an effect this will have on my Columbia application. Also, I currently have a masters in biomedical science. Will this hurt or help me in my pursuit to change from a science research related career to a career in pharmaceutical finance or marketing? Thanks

I think your father's legacy will help your chances of admittance, although I don't know to what degree.
I think your masters will be a good thing as long as you have crystal clear career goals.

I think at most schools it will only help significantly if your father is a substantial donor. If not it will only help if you are "virtual tie" with another candidate. Then, you would be given the nod over the other candidate. At least that is the case at the school I was looking at which my father attended.
