hey river, congrats on getting a bid for the house!! Unfortunately, I'm still mired in the condo-sale process. Dropped the price by $20K and still not even ONE offer after almost 60 days! Currently I'm looking into contingency plans. I may try to have it list for 3-4 months (going 1-2 months into my school start date) and hope to get a bid. Or I can rent it out for 6-12 months, and cover my tuition, expenses, and the mortgage shortfall (rent won't cover the mortgage) by taking out a Home Equity Line of Credit. Right now my credit union offers 4.25% on HELOCs, so for a 1 year period, that would be better than taking out Grad PLUS loans (and even the Stafford unsubsidized loans). I just hope something works out in the end.
Next Wednesday is my official last day at work. Went in today for my "one day a week" schedule to clean out a little and answer questions for people who are taking over my work. Life has been good with slow unpacking, playing sports, watching the Wimbledon, and other small errands that pop up. My last trip before school starts is a long weekend in Vancouver visiting a friend in 2 weekends, so that should be fun.
As for the move, it's TOTALLY worth it to pay for movers. I was going to do the move myself, but ended up paying for 2 movers for about 10 hours (roughly $1000 + tip) and having them do the entire move out, pack in truck, and move in. I helped out to save some time, but it saved me TONS of headache!
Other than that, just looking forward to when all my future classmates move into the Berkeley area, the math/communications camp (starting August 4th) and Orientation (2 weeks after that). There are some recommended readings, but most people tell me that I don't need to do it, so I won't.
Anything else? I hope to get my pictures from China, Peru (2007) and Europe (2006) all processed and put online before school starts, hahaha.
