I'd go with C - the only one that avoids repetition of "the river".

please let me know the full form of OA and OE :shock:
i believe them to be Official answer and official explanation is this correct??????


IMO is (A)
Looking forward to getting more explanation on this .

My analysis :
Eliminated (E) since it used passive.
(B) and (C) were awkward hence out.
few.... but is not as strong statement compared with
(A) unlike X,Y -> hold it and IMO (A)

Kindly clearify why (E) inspite of such a tough construction .. whats wrong with (A)

Good one..

D distorts the meaning of origianl setence.

Origianl setences says " many cities where river no longer the focal point of urban life"
---> . initially they(rivers) were focal point of urban life and now ...they are not focal point of urban life"

D -- means that few Cities where river is the focal point of urban life.... mean they are not changing.. they alway focal point of urban life...

Also usgage "BUT" in both statements should contract/OPPOSE each other..

(D) focal point in X but focal point in Y -- both talks about focal point usage of "but" is not appropriate here.
(E) NOlonger focal point in X but focal point in Y -- SOUNDS GOOD.

A is incorrect.

unlike X,Y

X= United States cities
Y=the river in San Antonio

Here you are comaring with Cities with River???????? How can you do that...

IF X ='Rivers in United states cities... ' then sentence should be correct.

as far as i know...

A should be correct if it would have stated like this.

"Unlike many United States cities, where a river is no longer the focal point of urban life, San Antonio.....the rest of the part"

"San Antonio" should have come right after the comma not "the river"

because its the "San Antonio" that has a different something than other cities . Its not the "the river"

Ok Got the logic why (A) is incorrect.Anyways (E) appears to be in passive and awkward .
