Re: GMAT Rewrite [#permalink]
If N & P are integers, is p>0?

1) N + 1 > 0
2) NP > 0

looks C..

N+1>0 means 0<=N<=infinity...insuff dont know anything about P..

NP>0

well both P and N can be >0 or less than 0..dont know..

Together..

we know that N is not 0..so N>=1 therefore P>=1

C it is

What's with doing the GMAT and/or GMATPrep hung over? What percent of the questions were repeats?

are you sure its 72?

here is how i did it..

999=801+(n-1)(3) (kind of using the progression sum approach)

999-801=3n-3
198+3=3n
201=3n
n=67

how do you get 72 or 71????

I need to stop going so fast when I'm trying to answer people's questions. I'm an idiot.

I get 67, too.

Are you sure it was 72?

Re: GMAT Rewrite [#permalink]
Here's my solution:

How many 3 digit integers greater than 800 are divisible by 3?

We're looking at 801 - 999 basically.

So 801, 804, 807, etc.

There are 999 - 801 + 1 = 199 numbers between 801->999. So 801 is divisible by 3, So we want the greatest integer value for 801 + 3X less than 1000

Playing around with it.... So 801 + 3X < 1000

3X < 199
X < 67

X = 66.

Now we have to remember that X starts at 0, so the values are 0 -> 66, or 67 values.

There are 67 3-digit #'s bigger than 800 divisible by 3

Oh congrats on the 770. Your GMATPrep's were quite accurate : )

Where are you located? If you're near big cities you can charge a nice rate. Be aware though that a lot of the time you're not going to be teaching, say for example how many different prime factors N has if 14n/200 is integer and N<200..... You're going to be attempting to explain the concept of a variable or what prime numbers are, or exponent rules..... most people don't know the basics. This is where my Math degree comes in handy definitely... although I have tutored the other type too, the ones scored got 700+... over 15 so far.

Kevincan, ughm, I don't know haha. I drink a lot. Definitely not getting wasted Sunday night :) Not like last time... or will I? :shock:

Did 474 - 502 SC1k

17 minutes - 35s/q

28/29 - 97%.

Some notes... regards is preferable to consider when dealing with humans.

I'm located about 35 minutes out of Montreal...

Either way I'll have to think about this. Could be a good way to make a decent amount of cash while networking a little bit.

I dont know if the OA is right one more thing if i have a conditon added to it that all the 3 digits should be different than what will be the method to solve it

Is that an official question? I don't think so.

But if I had to answer that, I would brute force it.

Paper Test 52

Got 1 RC wrong, 2 SC. Did the SC in 16 mins instead of 25-- rushed, would have gotten the 2 right had I spent more time. Anyways, scales to 103.75/107, 103/107, 102+ is 800. So I still got an 800... everything else was under time too. Did the DS in 14 minutes instead of 25, the paper test math is much easier than the CAT of course...

2 800's in a row... will do GMATPrep1 tomorrow. I'm writing Monday @ noon. Hoping for 780 at the very least.

GMATPrep1

790
Q: 51 (2x), 45 mins
V: 50 (1x, SC), 45 mins

Both of the Quant questions I didn't spend enough time on. The SC was close, I had it down to 2, 50/50. I went with the shorter one, but it was an illogical comparison error. The other one had 'their' and the sentence had two plural objects, so I decided the shorter one was the lesser of two evils, but apparently not.

Re: GMAT Rewrite [#permalink]
Going to do a little bit of SC, review perhaps 5-10 Quant questions tomorrow. Does anyone have any hard divisibility DS questions?

Other than that I'm pretty much ready...

790
780
800
800
790

All done way under time... if I get 780 or higher I never have to write the GMAT again. : )

Then it's off to 2009 applications..

Aren't you getting some repetitions by now? After all, you are tutoring as well and must have seen nearly everything by now. I never find new quant questions (though I have seen about 100 GMATPrep exams)
