Hi everyone,
an idea came up during one of our evening chats - Interview practice in groups of 5 or so via a Skype conference call. Depending on the number of participants, we can split everyone in small groups that can call into practice sessions - everyone can get interviewed and be an interviewer for everyone else. Participation from school alumnae would also be appreciated. Feel free to comment on this thread, and if you think this concept holds water, lets try it out.
HERE IS OUR SETUP:
I set up 5 Skype gmatclub accounts with the brilliant ingenious names of:
gmatclub1
gmatclub2
gmatclub3
gmatclub4
gmatclub5
password for any of them is gmat700 (the borderline). The e-mail these go to is
skype1@gmatclub.com.
If there are two users only, you can do video chat. If there are more than two users - you can only do voice conferencing. People can schedule groups of 2, 3 or more and distribute who is who and how they want to do their group chats. Make sure to schedule your chats in the forum so others know if the accounts are in use and can plan accordingly. Also make sure you have Skype installed.
How do you set up a group?
1. Invite others from the forum who are interviewing (preferably people from very different backgrounds interviewing for same school, but variations can't hurt).
2. Set up a time for your interview. Groups of 3-4 work best - for each person designate 30 minutes of time. If you have 4 people, your interview should take 2-2.5 hours.
3. At the interview, you decide on an approach. An approach that has worked before - each one gets 20 minutes to be asked questions from the rest, and 10 minutes to hear their feedback at the end of the mock interview. Once Participant 1 is finished, he becomes an interviewer and Participant 2, goes through the same. Nobody leaves until everyone has gotten an interview and their feedback.
4. You can exchange resumes or skip them -decide as a group.
Have fun!
