I am happy to do it separately, though if we get someone with ties to the school to help, I think it would be valuable - I wouldn't mind chatting in a group if that allows us to get their perspective.
Sounds like a plan. I do have friends at W but none available for mock interviews. I just got some perspectives on where to interview and, more importantly, why (or why not). Listing them here (these opinions are from students @W currently involved in the admissions committee):
On-Campus studentpro: they ask standard questions, are well-prepared by the AdCom to assess your profile, almost always friendly and nice.
con: Some may be younger and lack maturity to assess complex candidate profiles. Often have preconceived notions about areas other than theirs.
HUB/On-Campus AdCompro: same as for on-campus students.
con: difficult to engage in a "chat" -- have an internal agenda (obviously); may not be best for every candidate, but may be good for the super-eloquent public-speaker consultant sort. Hard to leave a memorable impression in 30minutes.
Alumnipro: can do background research on them and find common ground prior to interview. You may get to pick a venue (pick a place you can use to break ice, etc); usually super friendly and just want to talk. Can really fly if you hit it off well.
con: May have passed out too long ago (no info on school, etc). Sometimes distracted, sometimes difficult -- basically a mixed bag.
I am going for an alumni interview because I found a guy working in a similar field and linkedin recommendations say he is super nice, humble and puts you at ease.
