Hey guys,

I've been preparing for the GMAT for the past three months, and I take the exam in three days. I did the OG12 Diagnostic Test, read through through all the MGMAT books twice and did all the practice problems from the books and from the OG12. I also went through the quant section of the Kaplan GMAT 800 book (questions seemed easy compared to practice tests). I've been studying roughly 4-5 hours a day.

Two weeks ago I took the GMATPrep Test 1 and scored a 650 (forget the breakdown but it was slightly higher for verbal, which I feel was a fair estimate for me at the time. Last week I scored a 660 on the first MGMAT practice exam (q41, v39).

After cramming hard all Labor Day weekend I took the second GMATPrep Test and was completely deflated when I scored a 600 (q35, v39).

What should I do? Should I just write it off as an anomaly?? My confidence level is rock bottom right now.

Well Buddy since only 2 days left i will say try too boost ur moral high!!dont let it go down..
I can comment only one thing about ur drop in score coz as u mentioned u were too busy cramming and studying that day means ur mind was already occupied with all those things to puzzle u more...i will say try to calm down and give a gmat prep again with free mind u will see a rise in ur score for sure...

thanx

i hate to say it but did you use error logs? you are at the point where you probably understand the basics but need more reinforcement on your weaknesses. let me know cheers.

I didn't unfortunately, but it seems like my lower score was driven mainly by DS. Not sure if it was just overconfidence and not thinking clearly enough about the questions or what. Would it be better to take a couple more practice tests before the exam or just cool off and review concepts?

Re: Drop Off in Practice Test Scores [#permalink]
unfortunately, the exact thing happened to me to.
My scores dropped by 50-60 points 2 weeks before my real exam.
back then i was sure it's just an accident, lack of concentration, you name it.

From my experience, in a retrospect that was a first sign of a serious burnout.
I got a 640 on my GMAT, a 100 points below my average practice tests score.

my advice to you is to put the studying aside and rest for a couple of days.

best of luck

I had 640 on my first GMAT Prep about 2-3 wks prior to my real test. Then, 2 days prior the the test, i took GMATPrep2 and got a 600. Confidence was crushed, everything happened just as with you.

I ended up with a 700.

Just chill out, realize that your score can be affected by many things, some of which you might not even be aware of. Scores can range widely. Go in there calm and collected and just do your best, that is all you can do. Worrying can only hurt you.

Whatever happens happens. That needs to be your attitude. Just roll with it man.

Best of luck

yes your quant is a bit weak but you could always improve your verbal as well. it is "easier" to improve quant so good luck!

I did some light reading in the MGMAT Number Properties book last night and did a few practice problems and nailed them. Boosted my confidence up again. I'm thinking it was more of a stress issue from a rough day of work. I'll debrief how the exam went over the weekend.
