So folks (more like vwjetty, for being a lakers fan =P ), what's going on with lakers these days??
i honestly think the lakers are a bit off their game (i know that's an understatement) but here's my take on it...
so far the laker's defense and offense have been on and off the walls like crazy. i mean they beat the celtics and then lose to the magic and cavs is just too volatile, and i blame on the team's dependence on kobe.
when he has a good day, the team wins, or at least sigificantly increase their chances of winning
and when he has a bad day, it's garbage.
i think phil jackson sees this but it's kind of hard to make any real adjustments to this because besides kobe with the assist of Gasol, the team is dead and they have such an significant influencing factor over the time entire team that they wouldn't go anywhere without them.
on the other hand, if you look at teams like the miami heat, they're VERY consistent, because of their big three - lebron, bosch, wade, and they're able to hold the team together even if one player is off the floor. Another example here would be the Celtics where each of the members on the team is strong at what they do: if you look at Kevin Garnett, he's the glue of the team, the back bone. Big baby plays straight center, and then you have allen - long range shooter, and guards like Rondo and pierce that each are VERY strong at what they do and hence can overall make a strong team even if one or two of the members on that team is off their game. And this is the kind of team that ends up winning the championship: consistency.
Now...
what can the Lakers do RIGHT now to change their game play. Well, their already 3rd in the west so they're slipping a little bit. I say we need new blood in the team. Get rid of the dead weights like Artest and Shannon Brown who really don't have an direct impact on the team. Pick up valuable players, perfect example, get Carmellow Anthony. If i was Phil Jackson I'd drop Artest and Shannon Brown like white on rice, hands down. They're dead weight and they don't really have a use for the overall team except just consume space on the floor. If they got Anthony into the Laker's, 100% hands down, you'll see a turn around because he has the speed, agility, and experience to play unlike some of these free lance agents.
That's just my take because as you know, and you can see, that Kobe is slowing down, he needs some drive, and some motivation to keep going, someone to keep him in check, and I think Anthony is the answer for that. I would hate to see such as talented player go to Knicks or the Nets...those teams are useless anyways, especially now after Strodomire got suspended for fighting...watch the Knicks lose a straight a losing steak now without out
