Hi there,
Thanks for posting. Here are your strengths as I see it, based on what you've shared:
-strong GMAT
-strong academics
-international experience
-energy sector is slightly less common among b-school applicants; and among Indian applicants (though you may still fall into the Indian engineer category in some assessments); and is 'trending'/popular in general right now
-looks like a real commitment to volunteering with all of your red cross hours
-showing some outside-of-work interests and passions through Capoeira
Potential weaknesses or challenges:
No one major weakness per se; simply the challenge of, as an engineer, demonstrating a) leadership, teamwork, & communication skills (not saying you don't have such experiences, just that that is a common challenge in engineering so be sure to highlight those!!), and b) there is a large/growing pool of engineering applicants so be sure to work to differentiate from others with similar backgrounds in choosing stories and accomplishments to highlight.
I do not feel a GMAT re-take is warranted at 720, no. The incremental difference you MAY achieve will not be what makes the decision in an application; and you are at or above the average GMAT at all top global b-schools. Instead I'd invest your time and effort into the essays-- that is the one thing in the application that you COMPLETELY control; you create something from scratch to represent who you are, and what you'll bring to the class. You need to show all that you have to offer; what makes you unique; why you want the MBA; why you are a great fit for THAT particular school; and what you'll do with the degree/your goals.
I think you are well positioned for the schools you mentioned. If you can really create a compelling application & set of essays you should have a shot, and it may just come down to how you stack up against the others who apply that year.
Keep in mind IMD is probably the most selective on your list just statistically and often has a smaller class size. And LBS would be a longer program than the others mentioned. One more thing-- I'd focus on your international experience (what it has been like to go from India to the US and adapting to different cultures and how it's affected you) as the b-schools, especially those you've mentioned, really appreciate international experience and perspective.
Good luck ! Keep us posted!
