Hi gmatwithpooja,

What does your current schedule look like on a week-to-week basis? I have to agree that "reading" audio books won't help you as much as you might be hoping it will. As you've alluded to, you'll need to beef up your reading/note-taking skills, and unfortunately, listening to a book won't help you get there.

We wrote about how to make time for GMAT prep, even with a busy schedule, which you can check out here: https://bit.ly/1cfDWvq. I think it'll be important for you to start using a physical or digital calendar to make sure you at least have reminders to study over the coming months. At the very least, these reminders will force you to reschedule when you can't sit down at the time you originally put on your calendar, but even this is a great way to make sure you're putting the work in.

Best of luck!

When it comes to RC, the best practical advice I can give you is that you should stop reading about how to improve your reading -- and instead watch and learn.

Let someone SHOW you how to approach RC -- not tell you about it. Here's a sample video RC passage explanation from us: https://www.gmatpill.com/practicequestio ... tions.html

And yes, you do need to force yourself to get excited about a boring topic. That forced excitement will get your brain in the right state to help you actually retain understanding of what you are reading.

higmatwithpooja,

You've got the right idea about how to improve your reading comprehension skills. You can improve your score for this specific section if you strengthen your critical reading skills in general. By that I mean reading to understand the structure of what you're reading, the main idea, and purpose. Having said that, the way that you read is just as important as what you read.

It's good that you choose boring texts, as many of them you encounter on the exam will be. They may also be in subject areas in which you are not familiar and thick with esoteric jargon. That's the way the test is intended to be. Most benefit from reading the Wall Street Journal, Economist, Scientific American, The New York Review of Books.

Here is also a helpful reference if you struggle a little with English language material:

Good luck!
