Hello MattGB, thanks for your question.
Because you graduated from a business program so recently, I think the biggest question admissions committees would ask you is why do you need an MBA to achieve your career objectives? Specifically, what would an MBA give you that your undergraduate degree in business would not? To me, you should not apply unless you have a clear and logical answer to this question.
It is critical to demonstrate to the admissions committees that your desired career path necessitates an MBA. As you say, if you aim to stay in PE, it would be hard to make a case for business school. And, business school might ease the hypothetical jump to investing in public equities, but is it more of a nice-to have or mandatory step in your career?
As you said, you’re early on in the process and have much time to make this decision. In terms of candidacy, you will have the best shot when you can craft a personally compelling narrative that demonstrates a clear and timely need for an MBA. It sounds like you are still figuring things out right now.
Hope this helps with your thinking.
Best of luck,
Brian
