I have done my schooling from India with above average results. Followed by undergrad degree in electronics & communication engineering, I was the topper of my batch and also involved in various extracurricular activities.

After my BE degree I worked for 1 year in an IT firm and cracked CAT with 99.60%ile which enabled me to get admission in the top B school of India, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. After my 2 year MBA degree with above average grades I got placed in ICICI bank treasury (India's largest private bank), corporate head office Mumbai.

After my 3 year stint at ICICI Bank I moved to Dubai islamic bank treasury, Dubai and I am currently working here since last 1 year.

So now I have a total of 4 years of work experience in treasury and capital markets. My role has been dominated by sales and trading mainly. Now I look forward to working for hedge fund industry & eventually setup one of my own. For that I need your help.

My goal is to get hired by the top hedge fund preferably in USA. And ultimate goal is to make a mark at Wall Street. Please suggest.

What can i do to get there?? Second MBA?? Some other specialized course like Masters of finance or economics??
Which course and university should i target??

I feel i am late for this years applications deadline and also i havent started prep for GMAT. GMAT is not my worry as i am pretty strong in quant and verbal.

Hey there,

At this point, a second MBA wouldn't help you at all. Your only route would be a specialized Masters. Now, getting into that depends on two things. For one, you need to be in a financial function that makes sense. By that, I mean something front office. You haven't mentioned what you do but that's super important. Secondly, and just as important, you need to be ultra comfortable with math, stats, and finance. Masters programs, such as those in Finance, require applicants to have a beyond working understanding because the programs are fast paced and not meant for amateurs.

That said, a Masters in Finance COULD get you into the Finance field in the US but it isn't guaranteed by any means. Also, without a GMAT, it's impossible to suggest programs - sorry :(. Have you set a date for the test yet?

Thanks Bhavik for the revert.

I have been working for treasury front office roles since last 4 years. All client facing sales oriented roles involving structuring as well as trading.

I am quite comfortable with stats and maths concepts.

I have started GMAT prep and intend to appear around mid of november. So that i can have a shot at MS program deadlines of schools like MIT and columbia.
Do you think this is practical?? Also please suggest similar school which give similar programs preferably 1 year programs.

Hey, if you're front office, you should be good to go. You're cutting it a bit close on the GMAT but you should be ok. Just expect to be really busy in the last couple of months. As for schools - I really can't suggest any until you have a GMAT score in hand. It's completely hypothetical until then. Especially for rigorous MS programs like Finance. You really need a score in hand before you worry about picking programs. Focus on the GMAT and crush them :)

Hi, I recently gave the gmat and got a 730. My profile is as follows

Indian / Male / 29 yrs old / Non-IT background

Xth - 91.4% CBSE
XIIth - 88% Maharashtra State Board

BE - 66% from Nagpur university in 2006

2 years of techie work ex after that in techmahindra from 2006-08

MBA from Scmhrd between 2008-10. GPA - 2.7/4

Worked for a top FMCG firm (Gsk consumer healthcare ltd) between 2010 till Feb 2014.

I was an area sales manager and led teams from size 5 to 10. Then was a Brand manager for 1.5 yrs and was part of a very successful brand team (Brand Sensodyne). I was the only one shifting to brands from sales in that year in my company. Overall good leadership exp in this phase of my career and lots of challenging assignments to talk about.

Currently I am working with a mktg analytics startup in Bangalore as a Domain consultant for CPG and have a team of 3 business analysts reporting to me. This is exciting work with most clients from the US and Europe. The culture is very different from a FMCG firm and one of the reasons I joined. I wanted to exp working in start ups before I went in for another MBA to better understand their challenges.

I have been an active quizzer throughout my college life and have won a few national level quizzes. I was part of the university quiz team. I have played football for the college team and I am a runner. I have ran a few 10ks and plan to run the half marathon in oct and I am training for it.

I have been active in committees and event organising (headed quiz comms, cultural festivals etc) and have been part of my earlier mba school's placement committee.

My aim is one of the following colleges Wharton / Kellogg / Ross / Stern. I was planning on keeping Anderson and Cornell as safe schools (Any suggestions on how is Kenan-Flagler, North Carolina would help).

Future aspirations are to enter consulting or get into a good program of a top consumer goods company as plan B.

Please comment of the profile vis-a-vis my college aspirations.
