Any feedback regarding my chances to get into a Top 8 program would be much appreciated; I plan to resign from the Army early next year and prepare for application process to matriculate in Fall 2012. I want to go into finance following my MBA- what do you think I should do for the year between the end of my service and when I would potentially start school? I think getting a job in a Fortune 500 would be a useful experience, but given the economic climate I may have to fall back on a government-paid intelligence analyst position. Thanks.

By1114,
Thanks for your post.
The best step you can take next year is to spend it in a way this is preparatory and related to what you want to do post-MBA. If you can't find get a job in finance, and the field is opening up a little, the your analytics and intelligence work will not be disparaged. It's just that the more business-related and -relevant, the better.
In either position and assuming a 700+ GMAT score, you will have a competitive profile for a top MBA program.
