Agreed. When I sent mine I made the subject "Waitlist Update" and then had the body of the email be what I had written. I also had my written update be more of a letter to my waitlist manager than an essay in the sense of the opening and closing paragraphs. Didn't attach any documents.

I think writing it in the body of the email is better, they might not see the attachment or not be able to open it. The subject should definitely include your name so they can't miss it. Maybe mention the round in which you applied.

My advice to clients is to make the subject line "[Name of Applicant] Waitlist Update". Also, you should include the letter in the body of the email but always attach a fully formatted pdf'd version. They print these out and they go into your file. They default to printing the attachment so if you don't have one, they will print the email which never looks as crisp. The letter itself should follow the same format as the rest of your application (essays, resume, etc.). When they go to make waitlist decisions, they will pull your folder and see this document. Do everything you can to make sure it looks great!
