Hi,
I applied last year to NUS and Nanyang with the below profile:

GMAT 670 (Q48, V32)
CFA and FRM charterholder
8 year experience - 5 year in Corporate banking, cross border finance, project lending, etc. 3 year in Investment Banking, capital markets, Structured Finance, promoter lending, securitization, etc. Presently National Manager for Fixed Income Securities at Tata Capital

I received interview call from NUS but didn't convert. This year I have scored 700 in GMAT (Q49, V35) but there hasn't been drastic change in profile - only that I have worked on various new and different financing structures.

How do I build my essay for re-applicant?

Should I re-write the earlier essays in a completely new manner or make modifications to the earlier ones?

What are some of the aspects I can highlight as reasons for re-application? GMAT score or work experience or both?

Should my resume be an updation with last 1 year work or be constructed from scratch again?

Any other stuff which will help me to write the essays for these 2 schools.

Your GMAT score last year was above the median GMAT score at NUS, and you also interviewed with them. That means your test score was unlikely the spoiler, so a higher GMAT won’t move the needle much this time.

Although 700 doesn’t hurt, you should focus on your professional gains in the last one year. It’s hard, no doubt, to show progress in a matter of few months (and that’s the reason why one should apply with full steam in the first go). And your recommendations should also ideally support the improvements you’re mentioning.

Rewriting or modifying your essays is secondary, and they’ll flow from what improvements/ gains/ experiences you want to mention.

Reason for reapplication: I don’t know how GMAT or work experience can be the reason for reapplying. It could be your continued interest in the program because of the fit it provides.

Resume: It should be a snapshot of your experiences at the time of submitting the application. So, update your resume with your latest accomplishments/ experiences.

Great to hear from you!

Well there are a few keys vital to a successful Reapplicant application:

1. A great school list - one which takes into consideration last years' successes and failures as well as any changes this year
2. Deep introspection about what went wrong last time, and an evident effort to fix it.
3. A good display of IMPROVEMENT over the last year - this can be work, GMAT, volunteer work, whatever...

Should I re-write the earlier essays in a completely new manner or make modifications to the earlier ones? - If the adcom is giving you another chance to apply, they'd want to read new essays (unless reapplicants don't have to submit new ones) to know more about you. Remodifying old essays does not solve any purpose.

What are some of the aspects I can highlight as reasons for re-application? GMAT score or work experience or both? Both are not reasons for reapplication. The reason is your continued desire to do the MBA to achieve an end goal. Better GMAT score and work experience will help you prove that you have improved over your last application.

Should my resume be an updation with last 1 year work or be constructed from scratch again? - we can answer this only after seeing your resume. If it was not well constructed last year, then you should redo it. A resume that does not tell your business impact is not impressive
