Scholarships/Assistantships [#permalink] New post 22 Aug 2012, 01:56
Hi
I am currently working in software industry and have an experience of 3yrs (31st aug 2012).
I want to pursue MBA in finance and soon will be taking my GMAT. My aim is to target schools in US, UK and Singapore.

My queries are below:
1. Most of the schools offer scholarships but limited to something around $ 10-20K ? Correct?
2. I have heard about GA/RA/TA. GA is just like a part time job, such as working in library etc. Correct? whereas TA/RA are more of technichal where RA is more of working under profs. My primary query - do schools offer RA/TA from first year onwards. i know they do offer for second year. but i have heard people getting full tuition wavier along with stipend for being a TA/RA from day1.
Kindly provide me with the list of such schools. all thoughts are welcome. I can think of going forward with my MBA plans only if i get such wavier.

Hi Aditya,

Responding to your queries below:

1. Incorrect. The scholarships could go higher than the range you've mentioned.

2. They are all part-time options where you generally work for a max of 20 hrs along with your studies. The nature of work could vary depending on the department and/or professor you are working with. It could be technical, administrative, coordination, managerial or a combination of all.

Such opportunities aren't limited to the second year students. Schools could offer it in the first year too.

Be aware that everyone is not as lucky to get free money from the good schools. You need to make them want you to be part of their program. Only then will they offer you incentives to smoothen out the financial ride. The strength of your profile and the quality of your apps are important criteria that would be considered.

Here's the story of an old-timer on bschool forums (he's used to be quite active on GMAT Club too as bblast for his test prep phase) who got a 100% MBA scholarship along with a stipend from the first year. You'll find other stories of applicants who've got partial scholarships and TA/RA/GA type of opportunities.

Good luck!

Thanks alot for the information.

Kindly list the Bschools (US & Int.) where there is a provision of GA/RA from the very first semester onwards.
