Sentence Correction

I am not sure which is a better option between D and E?



A) The old geezer aggravated his younger counterparts by consistently producing more work than them.

B) The old geezer aggravated the younger counterparts by consistently producing more work than they.

C) The old geezer irritated the younger workers by consistently producing more work than them.

D) The old man irritated his younger workers by consistently producing more work than them.

E) The old man irritated his younger workers by consistently producing more work than they.

read the sentence as

the old man irritated .... them/they

you now know the answer :)

I would opt for E. But feeling a missing of "did" after they.

In my opinion D cannot be true as it ends with them.

I think "they did" would have been perfect .... but the actual answer is E and no explanations were given...

My bad

This is not an "of" construction to ignore part of sentence

Moreover, I thought workers is object in the sentence where as
old man & workers are subject of the sentence, so they is the apposite pronoun

You need to think of it like this:


E The old man irritated his younger workers by consistently producing more work than they produced

they makes sense

them does not
