My phases were more like...

1.) Business school sounds good but I don't want to take the GMAT.

2.) Ok, I'll take the GMAT. Wow finance is easy, but high school math is apparently difficult. 550 here I come.

3.) Wow the verbal is a joke...but how did I not fail out of 9th grade math?

4.) Ok, September 1st I'll take it.

5.) Ok, October 1st I'll take it.

6.) October 17th, ok finally took it. 710, works for me. Who needs geometry?

7.) Ok, decent score, I'll apply to 8 schools.

8.) Wow these essays are annoying, ok 4 schools.

9.) Ok, 3 schools, I'll be done by Christmas.

10,) Ok, 2 schools, I'll be in by the R2 deadline.

11.) Ok, I don't care where I go now, I'm just tired of waiting for decisions.

Haha, truly awesome...very similar to my phases (Except the "HBS clear admit and full scholarship. I thought that it would be a hugh success if I end up somewhere within top 30)

I wish I could have read this a year ago so I would have known what I was in for, you really captured it all.

Thanx, guys, for the positive comments. As i wrote, you have been a source of inspiration for this post and have helped (as part of this community) to make this journey somehow easier.

Good luck to all, especially 2008 applicants (you are in for the ride of your lives!).

Cheers. L.

Brilliant, L! You rock.

Just what I went through. the only thing I would add is something in Phase 6:

Ding Before Admits
Crap! Yale dinged me without interview! Ohmigod! If they did it, ANYONE can do it! THEY COULD ALL DO IT!

(And then proceed to rolling admissions and back-up-back-up schools....

My version:

- Should I go to [School X] with no scholarship or to [School Y] with no scholarship?

:)

All your scholarship people suck!

Spot on, aaud! I had forgotten about this particular part of the "blues", i.e., the first ding. I've added it to the 6th phase.
