here is a list of books with links to Amazon. I'm not plugging Amazon, but its the easiest to read up on the books.

Paul Bodine: Perfect Phrases for Business School Acceptance.

The link says that the book is in pre-order phase. I'm not sure when it will be released, but if it's in time for my essays, I'll probably buy it.

Paul Bodine: Great Application Essays for Business School

I own this one and have not gotten all the way through it, but it seems to be a great book.

Richard Montauk: How to get into the Top MBA Programs

I also own this one and it has been good. It offers more of a general overview and insight into the minds of the adcoms. At least that's my impression of it so far.

This book gets mixed reviews. Some read the essays and see how amazing these people are and say "No wonder they got into HBS! I wish I could see an essay of a normal person like me that got into HBS." I think we need to realize that we're only seeing one essay of this person, and that's not even all of the essays used for admission! Each of us have some stellar story to tell, we just have to find it and write it.

I don't have this one, but I thought you might want to check it out.

There are many other books about getting into an MBA. These I listed seem to be the most popular. If you go to any one of the amazon links I pasted above, you'll see near the bottom a list of suggested books about this same subject. You can look through some of those books and get a feel for them.

Hi jallenmorris ,

I think one of the useful help from an admission consultant is that he can tell you which schools are within your ability.

Without them, because admission process is very subjective, I have not idea about my chance in certain schools. Maybe I have good chance in Stanford, maybe I cannot enter enter the Rank 50.

So, they can advise meon the school list. Saved our time, effort and money (application fee)

I don't put much weight on which schools and admissions consultant thinks is within my reach. Kryzak was told that he was unlikely to get accepted at Haas. Guess where Kryzak is attending this fall? Haas! The consultants do the best job they can and most of them are certainly trying to help their clients, but I do not view the return as worth the investment. Should I listen to them say that my profile means I have no shot at Harvard? Maybe, but I don't care. I'm applying because on of my recommenders is alumni of Harvard and I believe I can market my leadership qualities to Harvard sufficiently to actually have a shot. Am I dilusional? Maybe.

Thanks, but I still got no idea for which schools I can apply. I am sure I need to start researching school after GMAT.

jallenmorris, are you participating in any online forum regarding application to BS? I want to find a place like GMATClub where I can find tonnes of info.

BTW, just found out that we are in the same industry.

One more thing want to share, it seems that the admission consultant always try to convince that BS are willing to accept a small range of age only.

My friend who graudated from NYU and Yale SOM said they see classmates old than me very often, BTW I am 29

Congratulations...Great split of verbal and quant.

Can you pls give me your input on what i should look into with 9 days left for my exam...verbal and quant references...exams i should take ...

I was planning on taking 1 exam everyday for the next 1 week and do any many questions as possible from the CR1000 and SC1000 RC220 sets
I am also taking my GMATClub tests starting today...and read thru the Manhattan SC book once again..

Just got my official score report available. I wanted to update the AWA score since I now have it. 6.0 (87%)! Woo Hoo - thanks Chineseburned!

I second this, Chineseburned's AWA guide is the AWA bible.
We can thank him for driving down the 6.0 percentage-wise.

Haha, you'r welcome guys.....But I warned you...the benefits of that guide will be short-term as the percentile falls down as time goes by. It used to be still 89% for a 6.0 the last time I took it in May. But now is apparently down to 87% already.....sorry :-D
