A) Reducing the number of opportunities for an attack on the President will discourage most assassins and improve the President's chances for survival.
B) By discouraging attacks on the President, the security arrangements surrounding him also protect the lives of bystanders who might be hurt in an assassination attempt.
C) Most individuals who attempt to take the life of a political leader are mentally unstable and unable to make rational judgments about their actions. A mentally unstable person may be determined but unable to make rational judgements about his or her action so security is necessary
D) It is part of American tradition that political leaders make themselves available to the general public on a regular basis.
E) The cost of an assassination attempt would be prohibitively high for most people. So I think C.

There is no point in spending millions of dollars on security arrangements to protect the President from assassination. It would be impossible to shield any public official from all contact with the outside world 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Therefore, a determined assassin will always be able to find some opportunity to attack the President. The above argument would be most weakened if which of the following were true?
A) Reducing the number of opportunities for an attack on the President will discourage most assassins and improve the President's chances for survival. a determined assassin finds some way to get to President. not so weakening statement.
B) By discouraging attacks on the President, the security arrangements surrounding him also protect the lives of bystanders who might be hurt in an assassination attempt. we are talking about a determined assassin finding a way to get to President.this seem irrelavent.
C) Most individuals who attempt to take the life of a political leader are mentally unstable and unable to make rational judgments about their actions. Since most people who try kill political leaders are mentally unstable.they can not make determined effort to get to President. seems correct.
D) It is part of American tradition that political leaders make themselves available to the general public on a regular basis. irrelavant
E) The cost of an assassination attempt would be prohibitively high for most people. it does not stop a determined assassin from taking down the President.
IMO C.
OA pls

Smells like I was the first one to get it right (if its C ). Glad to see 2 more agreed with me later. Conclusion : Therefore, a determined assassin will always be able to find some opportunity to attack the President. A) Reducing the number of opportunities for an attack on the President will discourage most assassins and improve the President's chances for survival. <-- I just fail to see how this is related to the conclusion C) Most individuals who attempt to take the life of a political leader are mentally unstable and unable to make rational judgments about their actions. <-- this weakens the conclusion by directly attacking the "determined assassin"

This question confused many people, including me, because it contains sub-conclusion. To answer this question correctly, we have to find out what is the real conclusion. I believe that the test maker tricked us by putting sub-conclusion on the last sentence. The real conclusion is the first one "There is no point in spending millions of dollars ...". Think for a second. This is a REALLY strong conclusion, isn't it?. Is there no point in spending money to protect the president at all???? Look at choice A) and Bingo!. Spending money will reduce the chance of attack and discourage most assassins. Two points has been made. So the strong claim in the question was weaken by statement in A). What is the OA?

E) The cost of an assassination attempt would be prohibitively high for most people. The blue-sentence is main conclusion, the orange-sentence is sub-conclusion. Author's conclusion: It is not recommendable to spend millions USD on preventing president from assassination. However, choice A says that: Reducing chance for attack President will dishearten assassins therefore, increase survival chances for president. ==> A undermine the conclsuion. A is the OA.
