I took the gmat today, scored 730 - Q49 (78%) V40 (91%) IR 8 - Overall 730 (96%).
I want to get admitted to Harvard, Stanford or Chicago.
My quant and verbal scores are fairly representative of my ability. With a lot of effort and luck I could probably increase my quant to 50 maximum.
I did an undergraduate degree in general BA, and my work experience is not strong math related (Tactical combat officer in the navy). My GPA 96 out of 100 (4 I think).
Should I retake in order to increase my quant from 49 to 50? (maybe I can increase my verbal 1 or 2 points but again Only with luck and my A game).

If you need a short and sweet answer, it would be NO.
You do not need to retake the test. Instead you should focus on building a strong overall application as the schools that you have listed are extremely competitive and you would need everything to be just perfect. So without wasting any time, start working on the application.
All the best!

I agree with everyone else. Your score is almost abnormally good. In my opinion you should just leave it as it is.
On the other hand, if you're not happy (i doubt it) with the score, take it again?

But yeah, like someone said above me, you should propably just perfect your other aspects of the application.
