UCLA EMBA vs USC EMBA [#permalink]
19 Apr 2010, 16:49
I know everyone will say, it depends on which industry one is in and which suits you.
For me, I don't care about which suits me.
My profile: Computer Engineer in hi-tech company, 10 years experience. Not a manager. Have been accepted in both programs. Need to decide which is better value for money. What matters to me:
1. Which one is more recognized in i) USA, ii) INDIA, iii) MIDDLE EAST? 2. Which one will give me better learning? 3. Which one will have better career placement, despite EMBA? 4. Which one can give me higher salary after graduation? (I know there are many factors here, but need to pick on, which guves better salary on avg)
I need to make up my decision for both, I have visited both schools and took complimentary class. I am undecided. Travel is not a problem. Both cost the same also.
The only reason I am leaning to UCLA is that it required GMAT, but USC did not, which probably means UCLA selects better applicants.
Any ideas for the answers to 3 questions?

Based on what I've read and heard, USC's program is known for it's leadership component while UCLA's program is known for more traditional book smarts. USC's program is delivered in locked modules and I believe UCLA's program is delivered in traditional classes with electives. Wall Street Journal and Business Week rank USC higher due to the unique leadership material and the rest of the polls rank UCLA higher for the same traditional reasons UCLA's full-time program is rated higher. The BW EMBA forums have some threads that might be of interest. Oh, and UCLA alum are jealous of the cool USC alum.

I don't know reputation outside of California, but USC seems to dominate networking in Southern California.
