The artwork of Vincent Van Gogh, mostly paintings executed in bright colors with loose, expressive brushstrokes and drawings done in pen and ink, will be shown for the first time in minor museums where they can be appreciated by people who a trip to a major city may be too expensive for.


a) where they can be appreciated by people who a trip to a major city may be too expensive for

b) where they can be appreciated by people for whom a trip to a major city may be too expensive

c) where people who a trip to a major city is too expensive for can appreciate it

d) where it can be appreciated by people for whom a trip to a major city may be too expensive

go with D. it refers to "artwork". "they" is ambigious.

IMO D.

A and B are out because of "they"
C => no comment.. :lol:
b/w D and E.. for whom is correct.

D

artwork is singular- A and B out.

"it" in C can refer to major city or artwork.

E has a severe error or ending a sentence with a preposition. Also its not even a complete sentence.

I will go with D as well. I have a different reason for eliminating B than others. Even if 'they' were not ambiguous, it would not be in the right form to modify 'artwork'. Artwork is singular the proper reference is 'it'.

If the sentence began differently and said 'The paintings of Vincent Van Gogh...' then the word 'they' must be worked in to properly reference 'paintings'.

We know that artwork is singular, so "it" must be the proper pronoun restatement.
