do you have any general assummption for above kind of argument. I ask this question because I see that this type of argument is popular on og books.
pls, help. Thank you
Hi thangvietnam,
These are logical connections and the type of logic that you wrote is called and implication logic.
Let me illustrate:
IF x occurs -> then Y occurs
If this is given as a statement and we need to conclude on something, what do we have to look out for.
Case 1: Y occurs. We cannot say for sure that X occurs. So Y -> X is untrue
Case 2: X occurs. We cannot say that Y has also occurred.
Case 3: X does not occur. We cannot say if Y occurred or not. Y may or may not occur.
Case 4: Y does not occur. In that case we can be sure that X has not occurred. Hence (NOT)Y - > (NOT)X
Just remember this:
If X-> Y, then (NOT)Y - > (NOT)X
So, in CR answer choices, if you encounter certain cause-effect relationships, you can use this relation.

Shouvik.
