Re: What is the value of positive integer m? [#permalink]
Option B

Given: m(Integer) > 0; m = ?

I: m has only one odd factor
: Possible integers with only one odd factor: 1 (1); 2 (1,2); 4 (1, 2, 4); 8 (1, 2, 4, 8)
Not sufficient

II: m has only one even factor
: Only possible positive integer with only one even factor : 2 (1, 2)
: For example - 1 (no. of even factors 0); 3 (no. of even factors 0); 4 (no. of even factors 2 - 2&4); 5 (no. of even factors 0); 6 (no. of even factors 2 - 2&6)

Re: What is the value of positive integer m? [#permalink]
IMO C

From 1 m has only one odd factor so m cam be 2(factors 1,2), can be 4 (1 , 2, 4)

From statement 2, m has only even factor( it doesn't state anything about odd factors) so m can be 2, 6 ,30

By combining both m has only one even and one odd then M can take only one value that is 2

(2) m has only one even factor.

Answer is Option B

Option A-m has only one odd factor.
let m=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
All have their factor as 1, which is ODD
So Insufficient...

Option B- m has only one even factor.[/quote]

Only possible is option is 2 which has only one even factor...!!

[b]So option B is required to answer the question...

Statement 1: possible value can be 1 , 2, 4

Statement 2: possible value can be 2

Correct answer is B

Bunuel Isn't Statement 2 ambiguous?

It can be interpreted as:

1. m has only 1 factor which is even. <- The intended meaning as per the OA

2. Of all the factors of m, only 1 is even The other meaning

m has only one even factor means that out of all the factors of m only one is even. So, your first reading is not correct while the second one is.

In that case, shouldn't OA be E ??

m has only one even implies that m = 2 only.

(2) m has only one even factor.

Can someone explain how come B is the answer?
Per statement 2 - m has only 1 even factor that is 2 but m can have any no. of odd factors because question does not state that m has the least positive integer.
Given the question stem - if m has only 1 even factor and 1 odd factor then m has to be 2. So C should be the answer.

Please advise why my understanding is wrong.

m has only one even implies that m = 2 only. Can you name any other positive integer with only one even factor?

Statement 1
Possible outputs: 2,4,8....

Statement 2:
Possible outputs: 2,6,10,18,....

Combined gives output : 2

So option C
