damn. i'm ashamed i'm the only one here with like 4 watches (3 real ones in the 500-1k range, 1 perfect fake that no one can tell that's in the 4k range).

i'm guessing expensive dress shoes, suits, jackets, jeans, etc. are also not common in bschool?

i work in advertising, where $300 jeans, $500 shoes, and a raggedy (but expensive) t-shirt are like the norm. guess i better change it up a bit for school lol.

No way, I say don't change a bit and keep your identity. You shouldn't feel obligated to change your style because of other students. I would love to buy a nice watch before school starts, just don't have the funding. :)

I'm in the same boat. I work in marketing so it is a little less trendy, but shoes and a well tailored suit are really important. I really like Allen Edmonds shoes since they are great quality and can be restored. My watch is a Movado...it is very versatile and dresses up and down equally well.

I'm thinking of being a bit different and going for a pocket watch. I think it will complete my geek-chic image.

No one cares if you have a watch or even what kind it is. Use your cell phone like the rest of the world does in 2010. Spend the excess cash on buying drinks for classmates.

Agreed - younger people just don't wear watches anymore, don't let some "old schoolers" make you think otherwise! If you want to buy one because you want it as an accessory then that's fine, but don't think it's a necessity! Save up your money to make sure you have the latest smartphone, that's how people are going to judge you nowadays anyway...

Watches = guy's jewelry

Expensive watch is just one way to display success, just like cars.

i think with expensive items like watches, purses etc. you gotta be in the "in crowd" who knows of these things or it would just be another "watch/purse" etc.

lol no unfortunately it doesn't shoot lasers. but it is one of the most rigorously tested and best engineered pieces of its design in the world. plus its simple elegance is just a thing of beauty. plus i got engaged and figured it's a good gift for myself (and this was still quite a bit cheaper than the ring).

but then again, watches are just one of those things. you either appreciate it as a work of art or you don't. same with suits, cars, etc. nobody buys a tom ford suit or vintage jaguar mk ii purely for function...
