Ya, I'm not hearing well at all.

Does anyone know if there is a deadline to accept the offer? I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.

Please let me know if they forward transcripts b/c I couldn't event participate (apparently didn't meet system requirements)... Oh well I did, however, get the username and password for the intranet, but didn't find anything much helpful there... Also, was a bit surprised and annoyed by the fact that only 2 colleges have spaces available.... I got in at first round and logged in as soon as I got my details and almost nothing available?! Not even tempelton green...

Transcripts: They just acknowledged that transcripts/webinar recording will be shared- stay tuned!

About the colleges- I checked that myself and found it surprsing that only 2 colleges have acco available.. My guess is its not available right now and the places may start becoming available later (maybe we are in too early?!? lol) ? I did check one of the private letting agency websites and they said that the list for 2011 will be out in Jan- maybe we are just too quick and eager?! ;)

Not sure if you noticed but the tuition fees, etc on the site is for last year- we could take screen shots and hold them accountable - and pay only last year's fees! lol

In all honesty, I haven't been wowed by Oxford yet. I attended an information session prior to applying and it seemed very shabby and haphazard. They presented all the information on the web, nothing new like interviews with students or the inside view of SAID. Infact they focused a lot on Oxford rather than Said. Additionally they paraded 4 alumni... literally paraded them and made them stand in front of a very crowded small room and left them open to Q&A versus having them prepare interesting experiences.

Now this webinar... I had to log out, it wasn't particularly impressive.

I haven't seen the intranet yet... but if it's lacking in depth like you say it is, I am wondering if I should go through with my other apps.

I did attend other info sessions and particularly liked the IMD one as I got a lot more new info about what really happens on site and even their alumni presented well....

Yes you are. ;) Nothing is available because students have barely finished the first term of three (or four). If it's like in Cambridge, you will be assigned to a college but you won't hear about accommodation until spring.

Re: Oxbridge 2011 applicants [#permalink]
Here are my excerpts from a chat I had with an alum of SBS:
As mentioned earlier, it is correct that they bank more on the oxford name becoz SBS is not yet recognizable. I wasnt able to get any stats on what % ppl get placed through placement services, bt he did mention that placement services is not upto the mark and still needs to establish contacts. A sad part was that in 2008 (when he passed out, 15-20% ppl got placed in jobs they wanted). That is very low. The takeaways remain the oxford name and experience. He had a view that colleges dnt really matter much bcoz due to such a hectic schedule at SBS, u get very little time to interact with other students. I have also heard that its tough to get into the famous big colleges, most of the MBA students get concentrated to newer colleges.
Waiting for the transcripts of the webinar. They did not answer or i did not understand about the question of placement stats i had posted.
I am guessing most of the admits arent really sure yet for going to SBS. If you guys are, do send me your email in a PM and I would start a group on google where we can discuss more nuances.. if it is preferable. Bcoz soon the thread is going to be flooded with ppl apping in R2.

Despite all the not so good signs so far.. I am certain that SBS would be in Top 10 of world consistently within next 5-10 years. I would rather brag about being someone who contributed for the school to come out of teens into the single digit than go to a single digit ranked school.

Contrary to belief, Oxford placement are really good and average salary of > £60k is not an easy thing to achieve.. I am from the UK and I know how difficult it is to get >£60k salary coming out of a course.

But again, it depends entirely how you see school fit your needs (now and in future)... Social Entrepreneurship is big at Oxford and for me thats a big plus.

I have been to SBS recently (including for interview) and mood within current students is really upbeat. And then, there is new dean to look forward to in 2011. Things are about to take a better turn and I can feel it. A school only 14 year old is placing students in best IBs, Consulting Co.s and still very highly ranked in Soc Ent.... I think this is a dark horse certainly to watch out for.

PS: As an admit my views are likely to be biased but atleast I am being honest and writing my thoughts as they are..

Not as gung ho about it as you are, but I agree that Said (and Judge as well) are up and coming programs. Would really be great to be a part of something like that. I don't think it will ever approach the top 10 internationally, especially being a 1-year program, but I do believe it'll continue to grow in its credibility and reputation. I really don't think you can go wrong with having the brand name on your resume either.

Guys, Can you help me out here?

My original transcripts which I submitted after my interview, are with SBS. How to get it back? I have mailed Darren(ad. coordinator) but yet to receive any reply from him.

Any suggestions.
Thanks

For those who seem a little underwhelmed despite getting an offer from Said, would you have preferred being accepted at Cambridge instead (assuming you didn't unfortunately get accepted) ?

Re: Oxbridge 2011 applicants [#permalink]
Got an interview invite from Cambridge today :-D

Anybody else heard anything from Cambridge for R2?

Some questions:

- I'm planning to travel with my mother, but not sure if I can indicate her as my "partner" - any suggestions from anybody who has been to one of these interview days? And what do the non-interviewees do during the day - do they go to all the same activities?

- They indicate smart casual as the attire - my understanding is that this is about equivalent to business casual; does that sound accurate?

- Any suggestions on how to prepare, what to bring, etc., for the interview? And for the trip?

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear. Hope to meet some of you next month!

Congratulations on your invite! :)
As far as I know you can bring your mother. They should arrange a tour around Cambridge, but that's all I know. I can't remember a smart casual dress code - last year I think it was business casual. I'm sure a suit cannot be a wrong choice.

Regarding on what to bring, I don't think you need anything specific, unless you need to give originals of your degree diplomas or GMAT score. The interview can be either a breeze or a tough one - depending on your interviewer. I had the latter. ;) Good luck.

I would prefer Cambridge over Oxford. I didn't apply to either though. Both of them are overrated and I would prefer to go to Cranfield over these two but not over LBS :)
