Gautam I really appreciate your patience in answering the questions. You explained regarding SC in a very nice way. I asked it earlier also..I was wondering if u can tell me which section of that grammar link one should focus. I mean there are six sections there..
which one is important.. I guess it's word and sentence level.. right?

You said that stuff like relative and restrictive clause is important.. also stuff about when and which.. can we find some references about these topics in that link?
Iam only worried about SC as Iam pretty sure that it is coming between me and 38+ verbal score. I generally breeze through RC passages, even the tough ones, and CR also doessnt give me much jitters. I remember in my GRE verbal I had all but one RC question correct in real thing. you know during those days one could check one's performance in gre site.. Even I had pretty good analytical score which comprises number of CR questions...
Iam not ready to beelive that my skills in these areas have gone rusty.. that's why i tend to beleive that i might be messing up each time in sc questions.
I know 690 ( 92 percentile) is a good enough score for most of the schools and programs.. but I have to get 720+ for various reasons.
Thanks for ur help

CrackGMAT750,
I am no expert at SC, but by time I was done studying, I could figure out the error on every sentence pretty easily. Here's what I did for SC...
I studied Princeton first, and after trying out a few OG Qs, I realized I was totally underprepared. That's when I stumbled across this site. Everyday, during at work during lunch, I used to go through one concept and then try out the execrcise. I repeated the same exercise after 2 weeks, so that I had the concept engrained in my brain. I then started work on OG Qs again. This time, I was able to crack some of the more difficult ones pretty easily. After I was completely done with OG, I was desperately looking for more questions, when bigB posted those 885Qs. I solved each and every problem in this guide making notes for each question.
This is how I answered SC qs during practice:
1)read question
2)Identify error
3)Identify correct answer
4)Identify errors in other choices.
5)Make detail notes for each question.
6) Verify Answers with OG. IWhen you get a Q wrong check to see whether you are familiar with the error concept, If so, check to see where you went wrong. If not, make note of the error type, refer to website, study that concept in detail, try out the practice exercises, then come back to the problem.
7) Identify very difficult ones and seek explanations for those.
8) Try solving questions identified in step 7 after 2 weeks.

You will be amazed to see the number of times ETS tests the same concepts. Practice, I guess, is the key. Not just solving the problems, but solving them convincingly.
Personally, I think ETS tests these concepts more than it does others:
1) Misplaced modifiers.
2) Comparison errors.
3) Relative pronoun erros. Get a firm grasp of restrictive and non-restrictive clauses.
4) Parallel sentences. Be particularly vary of these. Identify which parts need to be parallel.
5) Tense errors.
6) Idioms (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT)
7) use of like Vs As
8) I have noticed that ETS tends to use a lot of passive voice in its answer choices. Learn to identify passive construction and eliminate answer choices with passive voice.
9) Learn the correct usage of "in which" "where" "when".
10) Meaning of a sentence. Learn to identify what the sentence means. Sometimes, the sentence may read one thing, but the author might mean something completely different.

If you can get only 1 answer wrong out of every 12 or so in OG and 885 SC Q bank, you are good to go.

Hope that helps.

Didn't mean to send anyone off on a wild goose chase....The score was right at the bottom, maybe the paragraph before the last. It typed it in letters rather than in numbers to make it difficult to locate. Seems to have worked....just trying to lighten the mood here....hope no one was offended :)

Bogdan, now I know that you, like me, like to skim through messages rather than read them thoroughly :) Glad to know I have company....
For all those Lazy people, who don't read whole messages, here is my score: 720, 49Q and 40V.

Thanks.

And you are right

I saw a bunch of congrats and could not locate your score - confusing....

Crackgamt,

Yes, you need to concentrate on the "word and sentence level" section, although the other sections offer creative insights.

The index is also a resourceful tool, with everything on the site listed in alphabetical order.....

Other than that, I think the powerpoint presentations on there are excellent as well.

Now, all you need to do is to start....as some great person once said..."well begun is half done"!

Take it easy my friend, and relax....GMAT english isn't all that bad.

Sure Aijaz!
We are always ready!!...start a foruma nd Anupag and me will moderate the same, with ur assistance!..
I see that there are ppl who are interested in PhD and even with everything going well, due the sever competition and small number of seats, they face a lot of confusion on this front- regardign selection criteria, presentation before adcom, SOP, etc.
fortunately, some PhD students at top 5-10 are willing to share their experiences and we can invite them to contribute on our forums!!
cheers

Hmm...I had checked verbal and not found 'q' bank unless it is the link to GMAT PLUS SC questions?

Is it the GMAT PLUS download at https://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/gmatplus/gmat.html
