Ahh...just found out that the private loans for Berkeley only allow to borrow up to the amount of tuition if you dont have an American co-signer. Ah just great.

Another plus for Ross here. You can borrow at great rates up to full amount of attendance minus aid received. So Haas has just moved down a little again in my personal ranking.

BTW, sorry for my ignorance, but why don't international students get loans through their own home country?

Interesting that Ross offers a better loan package. Then again, Ross does charge 7K more for out of state tuition and 11K more for in state... that probably helps.

Because funding an MBA is not a usual process where I am from. I called up several banks, the concept of handing out six figures without a backup is not easy to grasp for them (risk averse country I am from ;) ). I have about one or two options for loans here, and I have to apply for those. I only get those if the people there think I will be successful in the future. And the terms are not really good.

ahh, good to know.

I think in light of this, you really have nothing to lose to just call up Haas and say, "Look, I really want to go to Haas, but the financial hurdles are so great (no loans for living expenses, no scholarship) that Ross is becoming a stronger choice every day, is there something you can do to help me with this?"

Of course, don't ask it like that, but something to that tune will definitely let you know whether Haas really wants to get you over or if they're firm on their scholarships.

Moreover, for someone like me, i have been out of my home country for almost 5 years, so unlikely to get a loan, and the current country i`m living in... well let`s just say, a lot of foreigners find it difficult to get a secured loan or credit card here!!!

and also what Branson said is true. Most countries are not MBA mad like the USA ;). The GMAT stats speaks for themselves... 180k examinations last year (or was it the year before?) just over 100k were in the USA. The UK (my home country) barely registered 5k. Japan barely registered 3k. That shows the importance of the MBA in those developed countries.

Got an email today stating the below:
" Since it takes a month for our staff to set-up the physical application files, and since the Admissions Committee is currently reviewing the files of Round Two applicants, we will not begin reading Round Three applications until late February. We expect that our first interview invitations will be extended in mid-March, and we will continue to extend interview invitations through late April.

Also, please note that you should not be discouraged if you do not receive an interview invitation by our Round Three notification deadline of April 30. Some Round Three applicants will be offered a place on the waitlist without having been interviewed; such waitlisted candidates are welcome to schedule an interview in May. "

Now the wait begins...

Haas R1 stats make an interesting reading. Lots of waitlist without interview which is kinda similar to Stern. I suppose Haas is another school that really likes to see "fit" ?

Quick question for those who have submitted their info for the Kroll process - what's supposed to happen after you submit it? Should I be contacted by Berkeley/Kroll? I submitted electronically last Thursday (7th), and haven't gotten anything back from anyone.

I know I'm being nutty worrying about this, but there was an inaccuracy in Kroll's info (they split each of the projects I worked at in my consulting firm into separate 'jobs'). I sent a quick clarification email to Haas about it when I saw it, but am still a little uneasy.

have you already decided to matriculate at Haas, carryonbag? I haven't sent in my Kroll since I haven't fully decided on matriculation yet.

Hmm. I was thinking that I should do the Kroll process to 100% confirm that I'm 100% accepted. I don't think you have to do this after you give them official acceptance... right? I haven't submitted my deposit or anything.

Re: Calling Berkeley-Haas Fall 2008 Applicants! [#permalink]
So Haas sent me a mail asking me to schedule a 20-minute career assessment phone conversation with one of their career management people, to help with the following:

# Personalized discussion about your professional goals and objectives
# Guidance as to career options and opportunities in your area(s) of interest
# Individual feedback on areas for development
# Full description of our resources and services

This is pretty cool of them. Any other schools doing this?
