Admitted to Texas (McCombs) Class of 2012 Thread!

hello everyone,

i got a question about financial aid. how is texas's financial aid such as federal aids (im not texas resident yet so no state aid for sure) i mean free $$ besides fellowship. One of my frd from Paul Merage told me, financial aid doesn't give out free aid for graduate studnets even thought u r not working but loan/fellowship.

is that correct? any thought is appreciated

Do you know how long it takes to receive the formal letter of admission? I got my confirmation on Jan 29th stating that the formal letter will be mailed to my permanent address but haven't received anything yet.

In my case, it took around ten days for the admit package to arrive.

Not sure if this is still an active thread but I had a clarification -

What all is needed to accept the invite? I may have to wait until last minute (Mar 15th) before accepting the invite since I am waiting on another school. Certainly don't want to miss on this one in case the other one does not go through.. Do I just need a credit card and I should be good accept?

Yes! All you need is an active credit card. You would be reqd to pay $1,250 as enrollment deposit.

has any one noticed that the admitted student site has been down all weekend? I’m trying to sign up for orientation and keep getting “This site is currently unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

did you guys receive the accounting HW? i kinda worry if i can finish that

I just received an email that said that accounting packages will be mailed by June 11th.

This is because I'm international, so I have the option to pick it up in Austin.

Nope; it's up and running. I had the same issue so I contacted admissions and they fixed it right away. Congrads on the admit! Hope to see you in Austin!

It took me a couple of days for the website to work when I got the email back in march, so just wait for a day or two and it should be ok!

Due to my late admit I am trying to get everything in order, so I am looking at housing. Have you guys secured places already and if so can you share your thoughts about the apartment around UT Austin? Any advise as to where and what I should look for?

I have not secured housing yet. My original roommate got taken off the waitlist at another program so he’s weighing his options. We have a 3br house fairly close to campus, which his friend owns, I may still be able to get if he chooses to attend another school. If he does and I get the house another student and I will be looking for a third roommate.

I’ve also discovered that a lot of people use apartment locating services. I contacted one and the lady has been super nice and helpful. You describe what you’re looking for location, price, type, ect. She then sends a link to a personalized page with all the apartments you may be interested in. If the house falls through I’ll be going this route to find a place. I can pm you her contact information if you’d like.

There are also a few people looking for roommates on the admitted student site which is how I found my possible roommate(s). I believe many of the singleish students live near soco/downtown. It’s a bit more expensive but socially worth it.
