Did you admits get any admits-only website that I can post on the top of this thread?

I am out of state for both McCombs and Anderson.

I'm in-state for McCombs and since I joined the military while in Texas I won't have to pay any tuition/fees that my GI Bill won't cover (thank you Hazlewood Act).

Since I may see some of you in Austin, I want to let you know a bit more about me and hopefully others will post more information about themselves as well.

I am in the Navy at the moment but I am NOT and never have been a 'military' person. Although it was the best decision I have made for myself (until now perhaps), I was never obligated to enjoy my time in! I kept a good attitude for my six years and I am a damn hard worker, but they couldn't pay me enough to stay in the Navy. I crave freedom too much...

Personally, I'm easy going, pretty smart, and try my best just to live and love life. I'm a short, ugly white guy and will be 26 by matriculation. Well, I'm not THAT ugly - I managed to trick this beautiful and incredibly tolerant Texas girl into marrying me. My wife and I are very social, love to party, and consider ourselves outstanding hosts. If you end up going to school in Austin, I hope you'll make it out to one of our house parties.

Oh, and I also have a 3 year old son who kicks ass!

Professionally, I am interested in finance mainly due to my affinity for numbers (and money ), although I wouldn't be surprised if I changed my mind while in school because I am still pretty unfamiliar with other business careers. Energy seems like a good niche for me because I already have experience in the field and with alternative energy looking like a field ready to boom - I figure that getting in now before the growth would be a smart career move.

As far as the username? I don't know where it came from. Maybe because I like sailing or because I put pirate flags in my computer room to annoy my wife. I just hope no one thinks that I'm French.

...anyone else?

It's not active yet though and you obviously need to log in to access it. :)

Don't worry, in French, the article is "le". But you might be mistaken to be Hispanic. In Spanish, the article is "el".

Spanish: el capitán
French: le capitaine

As a French speaker but not a Spanish one, I 100% thought your nickname was Spanish... for what that's worth. :)

In my 'about me' I forgot to mention that I am oblivious to glaring differences between French and Spanish! I consider it a strength.

el capitan,

I also joined the military from Texas so will be considered a resident and will be able to take advantage of the Hazlewood Act. Have you all ready applied for the benefit? If you have any tips please pass those along. Good luck and I may see you in the fall.

For the other discussion about UCLA... I am not going to be applying to Anderson (R2) due to my admit at UT. I don't think the benefits outweigh the costs. I won't have any debt leaving UT but the way the new GI Bill works I won't get anything from the government for UCLA business school due to the fact that it's based on undergrad resident tuition and residents don't pay to go to undergrad UC schools if they are admitted. Not sure if anyone else is in the same boat.

Good luck to everyone if you are still working on R2 applications!

I haven't done any work for the GI Bill or Hazlewood Act yet but I will be applying sometime soon. I don't want to be caught up in the long delays for GI Bill payments that have been reported lately. I don't expect it will be so bad this year, but the advice from my friends is to apply very early.

I was considering school in California for a while but according to the new GI Bill there would be literally NO money for tuition, or at least that is what I gathered from my research. Texas, from a financial standpoint, was a no brainer.

Yeah, I noticed it earlier today (I've been checking obsessively) - I'm super excited about the trip options the week before orientation. Iceland? Sweeet. And sorta terrified that we would have to be in Austin by August 1. Soooo soon to move to Texas!

me neither, asianstyles. not that I think I'm necessairly entitled to a big hunk of cash, but I think it's weird that upon acceptance they told us they'd notify us in a couple of weeks and no one on the forum has mentioned hearing anything...

yeah, seems like at least someone on the forum would have received a scholarship if decisions have already went out, so i doubt they have gone out yet.

also, i was suprised that they told us that they would notify us so early. last year, i don't think people were notified until the beginning of feb.

though actually, just to clarify, they did email me in December about applying for the Forte Fellowship (the scholarship for women) and I sent in my statement for that this weekend with the understanding that they'll be awarding those at the end of January. They specifically said Forte doesn't interfere with your elgibility for any other scholarships though maybe it affects the timing of the award. i.e. they're going to wait to see if you're awarded the Forte Fellowship before they give you anything else.
