in all fairness, i don't think wharton offered outright deferred admission to 100-200 students, that, of course, would definitely be unfair to this year's class, but i think it was a case of the class of 2011 being oversubscribed and them having to choose which candidates to defer.

in other happier news for WL candidates, there were a lot (about 1 in 3) students i met at welcome weekend who were seriously considering other schools as well, i definitely feel there will be some drop off and slots opened.

I agree. From what I've heard, Wharton had not expected such a high yield rate last year, so they had to defer as many students as possible to this year. Even with the high number of deferred students, Wharton still has 850+ people for Class of 2011. I'm also on WL, but I don't think it's unfair. It's just a bit unfortunate in terms of timing.

I just attended the Admit Weekend (this past weekend). Wharton is an awesome school. About 9 out of 10 people I asked are enrolling Wharton. The others seem to be deciding between Wharton and scholarships somewhere else. Good luck.

Came back from Welcome Weekend as well and had a great time. I agree that most people I talked to are enrolling. The others were mostly deciding between deferral (due to jobs, etc) or scholarships else where. Good luck with the WL!

Dear Fmv07 and JoeB,

Would you two be willing to share some of your experiences at the WWW. I am located in East Asia and couldn't make the trip, but the schedule looked activity packed. Also, to you knowledge did many students search out and secure housing when they attended WWW?

Thanks and I'm glad to hear that it was a lot of fun. I regret not being able to attend.

I certainly hope the qualified Wharton admits are not whoo'ed by the US News and report rankings. Wharton is a great school with strengths across many disciplines. I believe the rankings can be a reference point, we each student should choose the program best suited for his/her background and future goals.

If those are really focused on rankings they can check the speciality rankings and see that Wharton moved up a net of 6 points this year, despite the overall drop in ranking.

I wish everyone the best and happiness in his/her business school decison and journey. This is going to be a wonderful, formative, and intellectually stimulating two years!

Maybe now that the bschool rankings have been released and Wharton came in at #5 (which is a bunch of crap), some admitted students will take offers from other schools like booth & kellogg

I think you to concider that people who attend welcome week are leaning toward the school. The probably tons of people who would have withdrawn already and didn't attend the welcome week.

The schedule was definitely packed, and there were a lot of team building activities, info sessions, and social events. The part that I enjoyed the most was actually just meeting all the people, both admits and current students. Student initiatives play a big part at the school, and you can definitely tell from the weekend. All the events, shows and dinners were organized and led by students, and you truly get a sense of how active and vibrant the community is. Not sure why people care so much about the rankings on these forums...everyone I met at WWW had far more interesting stuff to talk about than rankings. It's one of those things that real people with interesting lives just don't even think about.

As for housing, most people did look for housing, but I don't think a large % of them actually signed leases. Most units available now require starting the next lease in July; people who don't want to pay for that month would rather wait and look again later. Current students told us that there is no need to stress about finding a place asap. A large class graduates each year, so there are plenty of units to go around. Feel free to pm me if you have questions about any particular building!

The weirdest ones are custom to your previous answers. Usually the interviews start with the same questions for all - resume walk, why wharton, why mba, why now. Your answers to these questions make the interviewer narrow down their next questions to something you need to clarify, or some gap your answers have opened. They try to evaluate leadership, teamwork, humility, passion, etc. To see if you have scripted answers or if you are thinking on your feet.

Not necessarily weird, but here was one question that was not standard. "What is your definition of success." You can also find previous interview write ups if you google "Wharton interview wiki." This will help prep you for some of the questions that previous interviewers have encountered. Good luck!

So my interview went ok. It felt like a blur but the overall feeling I have is positive. I was a little too chatty but I'm pretty sure I didn't have a Steve-Carrell-in-"Anchorman" meltdown so I'm happy about that. If they were bullish on me prior to the interview then I did nothing to make them change thier minds. But if they were just neutral on me, I don't think I did enough to have them jumping up and down. So here's to hoping they were bullish on me prior to the interview. But it is out of my hands now and all I can do is wait, say a bunch of Hail Marys and see what happens on May 14.

One more thing: at the interview, I met a "quant" from New York City and a guy who designs medical devices in India and I am a former corporate lawyer doing non-profit work; so if we are all above Wharton's academic threshold how would you pick which one of us to admit... Getting admitted is a function of so many factors outside the applicant's control so if you get in be humble about it and if you don't get in, don't feel too badly about it....

Good Luck to all!

Guys,
I decided to decline the Wharton offer (I loved the school and people but I liked a different school a little better). Do I just not pay the deposit or do I still need to write a letter/email/make a call to the admissions office?

Thanks!

I think that today is the deposit deadline for round 2 admits...am I correct?

This means that as of next week waitlist candidates may be getting news? or do you think they will make us wait until May 14th?

They need to put us out of our misery. I have been waiting for a decision since Oct 1, 2009. Ridiculous if you ask me.
