Interesting (but again like with the Financial Times another useless global ranking :-)).

I haven't read through the methodology, but just from reading the article there are already a couple flaws. For example, it mentioned that both LBS' and IMD's starting salaries have gone down, while UC Berkeley Haas' average starting salary has remained flat. Well due to the weakening of the GBP (maybe less so the €) of course average starting salaries have declined sharply in USD terms. But in GBP, they have remained the same. And the employment percentage after graduation has dropped everywhere to the low 80%'s, not only at EU b-schools.

Then the article talks about the average GMAT as an indicator for students’ intellectual prowess. That's probably true. But given that non-US b-schools often have 70-80% international students whose first language is not English, it is not surprising that they score lower on the GMAT (esp. the verbal part) and hence average GMAT scores are also lower. US b-schools usually only have 25-30% international students whose first language is not English.

Again, I haven't read the methodology and maybe there are adjustments made for the factors mentioned above. If not, then like with the FT ranking, the Economist ranking should also go straight to the bin :-).

Thanks for posting, Rhyme! It is a great accomplishment for Booth to top this one.

I found Schulich's position surprising- anyone know the cause of its ascendancy?

Ya I was quite surprised myself. In any case, this hopefully bodes well for the reputation of its undergrad degree as well

Congrats on the influence, krussell! :P

In all seriousness- I went to the website and poked around, but didn't find anything that I could ID as a potential cause. Did you get a new building, or hire significant numbers of new faculty, or anything else that might have contributed?

While I'm familiar with Schulich it never seemed to top the Canada rankings in the past, so to all of a sudden leapfrog to the highest ranked Canadian school AND over so many other international programs... it just seems like something newsworthy must have gone on!

Hi!
I just wrote a story for Poets & Quants about the changing relationship between adcom offices and admissions consultants. I was wondering whether you feel there's a difference, ethically, between consultants and test-prep companies. Would love to hear your thoughts about this question here, or to hear what you think of the new relationship, over at P&Q.
Best,
Greg

If anyone honestly thinks Haas places you in a better position than HBS, Darden (ditto) CBS, and Rice (ditto) McCombs, I have some ocean front property in Arizona you might be interested in.

Now now, you don't have to be *that* harsh towards Haas. :P

That`s right, he should be harsher!

In all seriousness, "better position" is relative to an applicants goals, and can`t really be applied as a catch-all. The recent economic downturn would have affected prospects of each school differently based on their key industry focuses and relationships.

Hi Greg

I wrote a post about spamming threads and not really even approaching the topic of the thread. It is this one. I would love to see if you respond to this here, or whether I should ask for your account to be suspended.
