A lot of us fear the verbal (and even the Quant) section of the GMAT and a lot of us want to make sure that we are getting the nuances right when we attack a question. And while the questions on the forum are good tests of your accuracy on a certain area of the GMAT, the answers are sometimes influenced by the previously posted answers thereby preventing users from thinking about it themselves, as opposed to just understanding how it was arrived at, by looking at other answers.
So what can we do about this? Start a competition of course! This would not only be an incentive for users to participate more in the discussions, but also ensure that your answers are the result of your own logical deductions instead of merely understanding by looking at stated answers. And hence we present the Bi-Weekly GMAT Challenge!
So, what's the inaugural prize? A Veritas Prep Essentials Course worth $550 to one lucky winner!!
The Question Can be Found Here:Week 1 Challenge 1
What is it?A competition to test your skills and reward you for it.
How is it administered? While this will serve as the master thread for the tally of points for the winners and for official answers to be posted later on, there will be separate threads created twice each week to post the actual challenge question. These questions can be either Verbal or Quant based.
How do we submit answers?Just reply to the appropriate thread with the question for the week. We have enabled a tool where your answers will remain hidden from everyone (except the moderators) until we deem the question closed, at which point we'll open up the answers to all the users!
What are the prizes and how are they awarded? Each week, the judges will award points to the best written explanations and correct answers based on a scale we have developed. Depending on how many points you've accumulated at the end of each month, you will be awarded prizes depending on where your points stand. The prizes are as follows:
1. The Inaugural Prize - A Veritas Prep Essentials Course worth $550!!!!!
2. Weekly Prizes - Your choice of GMAT Club Tests/GMAT Club Grammar Book or the GMAT Toolkit
3. Monthly Prize - One winner - the person with the most points, gets a set of books from either Veritas Prep or MGMAT.
When will this start? Today! The first question is special. To celebrate this new challenge, we are glad to announce that Veritas Prep will be giving away one Veritas Prep Essentials Course to the person we deem to be the winner of the challenge. BUT. You must answer the question by 2 pm EST tomorrow (22nd of October) for your answer to count. After this week, the questions will be posted periodically every Monday and Thursday!
How to register? Just reply to this thread or any other thread with the "Challenge" Title!!
And shoot me any questions you guys have before the contest begins, and I'll try my best to answer them as soon as possible. And may the best person win
