Thanks for sharing your profile. Really like your background and in particular your extra-curriculars. In your field admissions will be expecting you to be dull and very work focused. I love that you have a track record of being engaged. This is an area that will differentiate you from other similar candidates. I would target schools that will allow you to reach these career goals, in particular Booth and Columbia and Stern and even tossing application into Wharton would not hurt. If you focus on your non-wor leadership and teamwork experience and get personal with some of your interests (volunteer story/gf disease) I think you can create a compelling application at these schools.
Hope this helps!
Thank you! That is very helpful. I have a few more quick questions if you don't mind:
- I am having trouble deciding whether or not I should use an Admissions Consult. Would you say essay editing would likely be the highest value add service in my situation? Or would you recommend a more complete service?
- I ideally would like to end up working on the West Coast (bay area specifically) - I understand Booth and Wharton have the national reach to place students in jobs countrywide... is this true of Columbia? Also because of the location, would Berkeley (despite the ranking lower and less Finance focus) be a better fit than Columbia?
- How many schools do you recommend applying for? I was thinking of applying to Stanford (is this a complete waste of effort?), Wharton, Booth, Columbia, Berkeley, and UCLA (is having a safety school also a waste of effort?)
- My step father is an internationally well-known author/public speaker that attended Harvard undergrad. I was under the impression mentioning this would only be detremental... is this true? Or would Harvard MBA value that sort of connection?
Thanks again!! Love learing about all of this.
