Re: Scoring Algorithm - Gmat prep software - my observation [#permalink]
Hi

Just sharing a few of my observations-

1) I don't think first few questions are more important in the sense that they do not contribute more as compared to other questions.Rather they are used in determining your level of expertise. Having said that, I could never make sense of my GMAT prep scores. Once I had just 7 questions wrong in Q and got 43 and then in the next test, I had 14 wrong and got 49. Go figure!!
2) There is a very good article by Stacey. Go through that. Basically what she has mentioned is that outliers do not count that much in determining your overall score. So, if all of a sudden, you get an extremely easy question wrong, it may not impact your score that much (provided that is a one off case- else it's no longer an outlier) and vice versa.

My advice is to prepare to the best of your ability and on the exam day, fight for every question. No point trying to think about things such as whether the current question is experimental or not or what is the level of the question etc. Also if you are trying absolutely to get your first 10-15 questions correct, you may end up messing up your timing strategy. Be prepared to let go in case you have no clue about the question.

Just my 2 cents.
Cheers
