B is wrong. The question is pretty bad though, shouldn't it end with "hoped to find?" or maybe "hoped to have found"

That sounds strange to me too Nevertherless, A sounds the best here..

Could anyone explain the usage of "since Robert Boyle"?? Does it mean "the chemistry works done by Robert Boyle"? smth like that??

I searched several old posts and indeed the OA is A..

however if you go back to some older posts they claim OA is B...
