I will be coming out as well, but haven't confirmed times/dates as I have a current conflict.

Based on what I saw happening in the previous batch of admits (about 3 weeks ago) we should be getting it Wed/Thu this week.

Is anyone planning to stay a few days before or after KEW to look at places to live in Bloomington?

Lots of students live in the Mercury and The Kirkwood... Great places to live for a grad student (although a little pricey), and are a great location as both are relatively close to the happening spots downtown.

Fountain Park is nice, but if you do like to go out, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. I know some students love it there, while others regret the decision, due to its location.

Do most students have cars for transportation or rely on the bus lines?

When i went to IU in my "other" life I lived at Fountain Park. IMHO, it was a pretty good place to live. and a better location for Kelley than my other school (on the other side of campus). IMHO, it doesn't take long to get from FP to bars or what not as Bloomington is a very mall place. For those w/o a car or otherwise want to take the IU bus system to school, Fountain Park is on 10th street, the same street as Kelley, and there is a straight shot bus line that goes there. It is near the golf course, so I tried to get a round of golf in whenever I could too. Of course, I don't think they take dogs, so that is out for me this time around.

I just checked out Mercury and Kirkwood. I'm not a fan of high rises (even if "high" means like 4 floors  ), so unfortunately I don't think those are my cup of tea.

Cheers,
Tom

I have decided not to have a car during the MBA....its going to be such a money saver, well at least at first glance. It seems like a car would be nice but really needed at Kelly.....any ideas...?

I'm waiting for some more confirmations for KEW before i update the list......

Well that's what I'm wondering about....I'm attempting to save money, but if it's going to be a major inconvenience not having one then I'll pony up.

^^^^Yea, at the end of the day me too.....but imagine not having one would make a huge dent on the whole amount. But i would hate to take taxis/shuttles to the airport all the time for recruiting events etc. That could quickly hamper my penny pinching.

To be honest, I think it depends on one's career aspirations. As much as I love Kelley, if I knew I wanted to work for M/B/B in consulting or work for one of the top i-banks, I would pick Ross/Fuqua/Stern over a full-ride at Kelley in a heart beat. Now, if one wanted to go into marketing, IMHO a person would be an idiot to turn down that full ride.

True, you might not be able to break in easily to the "top three" consulting firms from Kelley. But my two cents is there are definitely students at Kelley who are making a go of it in both consulting and investment banking. And if you do go down one of those paths, when you get your job you'll still be working alongside MBAs from the MBA programs that were mentioned who also didn't break into those firms. Here is a listing of companies that recently hired Kelley MBAs https://kelley.iu.edu/GCS/Recruiting/Top ... 20451.html

Off the top of my head I can think of 3 of my friends (1st years) who will be working at Deloitte, E&Y, and AT Kearney in consulting this summer.... Don't know of anyone off the top of my head who will be at Bain, BCG, or McKinsey.

Regarding banking, I can think of some first years who will be at Goldman, Bank of America, and Suntrust. I also believe there is an internship at Merrill Lynch this summer.

Let me say though, this is just off the top of my head without asking around.

Most domestic students have cars, most international students rely on the buses. I personally like to walk to class, particularly when it's nice out.

Not necessary to have a car, so don't feel obligated. First semester I drove only once every 2 weeks or so.
