Eek!

Actually I'm pretty confident, I think I'm in really good shape. I've been studying for 3+ months and had planned on taking it a long time ago, but just haven't been able to scrape the cash together. I've taken five practice exams, including GMATPrep three times (with almost no repeat questions!), and have gotten 700 (Manhattan GMAT), 750 (Knewton), and 730, 750, and 770 on the GMATPreps. I wanted to take one more before the exam, but I don't think I have the time. I've done five of the six club verbal tests, getting 36 or 37 on all of them except v04, which I got 29/44 on this weekend and freaked myself out... but I'm chalking it up to a fluke and being distracted by the holidays.

I know I've got some weaknesses I still need to address, and I have to work on the essay portion a bit this week, but I think I'm in a good position to get the 750+ score I'm really hoping for. I'm a good test taker and have passed two actuary exams, so I'm comfortable with the setting. Fingers crossed!

congrats man, that is just excellent... Could you please share with us what you think helped you (especially for the verbal where I am struggling)?

Primarily, my studying involved doing as many problems as I possibly could. I went through the 11th edition of the OG, section by section, taking note of any problem I got wrong or found difficult, so I could go back and review them later. When I was done with that, I started going through the GMATClub tests. I ended up doing all six of the verbal tests and something like 7-8 of the math tests. I also took five practice exams and reviewed the questions I got wrong several times. On top of all of that, I was on the forums just about every day going through problems (a lot of downtime at work was spent doing that!), and did all of the difficult problem sets I could find, especially from Bunuel's profile and the brutal sentence correction set.

Basically, it was practice, practice, and practice some more. When you get problems wrong, make sure you understand WHY you got them wrong, and go back again sometime in the future to attempt them again.

Wow - I love that much-deserved confidence, TehJay! Keep that momentum going - you've earned the right to be relaxed and confident going into the test, and to trust yourself throughout the exam even if you do encounter some tricky questions. I love when people are in that situation...Friday is an opportunity to show off how hard you've worked and how much you've accomplished. Friday is just the "victory lap"!

[#permalink] ### Show Tags 06 Dec 2010, 07:12 I'm not 100% positive on the schools yet. I live in Boston and would love to stay in the area, so obviously I'm looking at Harvard, but that's bound to be a longshot. I'm looking at MIT as well, but I don't think I'm as interested. I sent my GMAT scores to those two, plus NYU, Columbia, and Kellogg, because I've been leaning towards marketing as a concentration. Brand management really fascinates me. Lots of work to go in the process, obviously, but I'm psyched to be done with step 1! Manager Joined: 04 Nov 2010 Posts: 230 Followers: 4 Kudos [?]: 88 [0], given: 21 Re: Exam is FRIDAY! Do not forget however that GMAT is just one admission criteria, so try to focus on essays, etc... Good luck, and keep us posted Cheers _________________ If you find the post useful, don't be shy and Kudo me Manager Joined: 06 Aug 2010 Posts: 225 Location: Boston Followers: 2 Kudos [?]: 144 [0], given: 5 Re: Exam is FRIDAY! I'm actually a bit surprised about that, because while I thought I wrote a really strong argument essay, my issue essay felt really bad, especially considering I completely started over and went with the opposite viewpoint 10 minutes into writing that one... There's no way I could have accomplished this without this forum, the resources available here, and the discussions I've had about problems here. Thanks GMATClub!! Manager Status: Fighting the beast. I hope you're celebrating appropriately. Actually, your username has always reminded me of one of my favorite dive bars here in Los Angeles, Chez Jay, where I often celebrate the successful completion of a GMAT class or Veritas project. I'll make sure to have a celebratory beer in your honor over there! Congratulations! _________________ Brian Save$100 on live Veritas Prep GMAT Courses and Admissions Consulting
