Got interview invitation few hours ago. :-D
Submitted my application on Oct. 15th and became ready for review on Oct. 22nd (it was a really long wait). Don't lose hope, they're still sending~

I got Stage 1 under review on November 6. Nothing has changed since. Anyone else wait this long between Stage 1 and Stage 2?

Honestly don't worry about it. They review different apps at different times based on whatever system they use, but rest assured it'll get fully reviewed. I think sometimes the status online doesn't necessarily reflect every single update or set of eyes that looks at it. For example, a few weeks after I'd already interviewed I called because it still said "interview and review" stage and then specifically invited me to register for my interview (even though it had been completed for a couple weeks). So, I emailed to confirm and everything was in order and the status just still says what it says. Bottom line is they get 3K (great) apps per year and have a slightly longer turnaround than some schools, so bear that in mind. Unless it seems really clear that something is wrong I wouldn't worry about it.

Just received an email inviting me to interview. I'm from the UK with a finance background, submitted on R1 deadline day and had began to think that I'd missed out.

Good luck for those waiting to hear. Wouldn't read to much into "under review" timing etc, sure its just a case of them taking the time to review each app thoroughly.

I got invited to interview on Thursday morning, but missed it initially as it went into my junk mail! I'm actually going to be withdrawing my application due to success elsewhere, but you all might be interested to know my application went under review back in October and I hadn't heard a thing in between - I'd given up by now.

Haas is a small school with a small admissions team, it definitely looks like they're still working through applications now. Don't give up hope!

Just sent an email to admissions asking whether they will release decisions prior to the deadline, here's their response:

Interview invitations will be made over the winter break, and all decisions (except in cases where an interview report is outstanding) will be announced on January 15.

Turns out they are still giving out interview invites over the break! I just received one in my inbox this afternoon at 1:27PM (PT). Since it's so late in the process, the e-mail indicated that on-campus interviews can no longer be scheduled, so even those of us in the Bay Area will have to do off-campus interviews with alums.

Submitted: 10/16
Application Under Review: 11/14 (I never saw my application change from Stage 1 to Stage 2)
Invited to Interview: 12/23

I'm based in California with a tech/start-up background. Hope this helps!

Anyone else having issue with that "word limit" on the bottom of the essay screens?
I cut my essays down to the word maximum, but my 250 word essays are showing up as 255-ish in the Haas page, and my 750 page essay is showing up as ten words or so over. Still within the range that's acceptable (as mentioned earlier in this thread) so I won't sweat it, but it definitely threw me off just a tad bit, haha.

It seems as though they count contractions as two separate words.

Happy New Year!

As with most of these, there are no right and wrong ways. The failure (or setback) and overcoming the failure are
completely your interpretation, it's how well (and clearly) you can highlight your learning which helped you succeed eventually.
I approached it similar to the first approach you have mentioned but I picked something that wasn't from my professional
experiences. The flow of events is important but I think you should focus more on the expressing the learning and its importance
very clearly.

Hope this helps, all the best with your application!

Hi, prospective Haas friends,

I have a big concern on Haas’ MBA essay three (Describe a time in the last three years when you overcame a failure. What specific insight from this experience has shaped your development? ). This is because the word emphasized in that essay, “overcame”, is very confusing. I find that there are two ways to write that essay, but I do not know which way is appropriate.

The two approaches to this essay question are as follows:

1. For instance, I met an initial failure in work. I later learned why I had failed in that work. Then I used that learning from that failure in my future different work and get success.

My concern here is that I just used my learning from that initial failure to succeed in later life, but I did not turn around (overcome) that initial failure.

2. For instance, I met a failure in work. I learned from why I had failed in that work. Then I used that learning to turn around that initial failure. More than that, I even used that learning in my future different work and get success.

My concern here is that I overcome that initial failure. However, according to my understanding, failure must be a real failure. If I turn around/overcome that initial failure later, then it seems that this initial failure is not a real failure, it is just a setback or challenge. Right?

So, which way is more appropriate to this Haas essay? Can anyone who was invited for Haas interview or already being admitted by Haas R1 give me some answers?

Yep, completed my interview close to 2 weeks back

Wow, lots of people iv-ed in B'lore, it seems. The tech connection, I presume. I was told to get it attested by my university's registrar or Fullbright commission. I'm not working close to my UG university, so it is definitely a pain to get this thing done.

Don´t lose hope,

calls are being very specific and personal for each admitted candidate. It neccesarily takes time, and there are 2 days left.

Good luck!
