dude.. the key question here is to apply EA or R1.

Do I get an advantage if I apply EA even though I've not visited the school... or is it better to stick to R1 ?

This question subject to the fact that Duke is my first choice (obviously)... which definitely is in my case.

Your key question has a simple answer. Is Fuqua your first choice AND are you prepared to submit your best application by that deadline? If yes, then go for the EA.

In fact, the adcom answers it in detail https://blogs.fuqua.duke.edu/duke-mba/ad ... d0WKkAwd-Q

Apply in whichever round where your application is ready. Don't rush on the essays just to submit in EA when you could take a few more days to go over everything and have a great R1 app.

If you feel like you got to know the school well enough without visiting, then apply without visiting. Everyone's situation is different in terms of location, how much time off you have, money for travel, etc. You CAN get into schools without visiting at all. You just have to gather enough information about the school so that you're comfortable applying there & adcom knows you're serious about their school.

In previous years, EA applicants who were not admitted in that EA round and waitlisted to further rounds were no longer subject to the binding agreement.

For example, if you applied EA but you are waitlisted and later admitted in R1, you are treated as a R1 applicant. I was not able to find anything on the Fuqua website that mentioned this so current applicants may want to verify this is still the case directly with the admissions staff.

That's how it works with Columbia ED, too. Would be very surprised if this policy ever changes, it's the only fair way to do it.

what's with duke being the only school to not release questions? I mean im on their 2015 class wait list and nothing would feel more awesome than working on class of 2016 essays while waiting for a seat in the class of 2015 right?

They like to tease the kids, just like they have been teasing you and I since 5 months.

Any suggestions on what is the best time-slot to interview and how fast the spots fill up?

MORNINGS!! Always do a morning interview, whether for bschool or for a job, if at all possible. You have a better shot of being remembered by the interviewer and less time to work yourself up into nervousness.

We can't recall hearing people get blocked out of interview slots at Duke before, they should have plenty of availability - but that's a guess, not an answer based on any direct knowledge. Could be a question for Duke Admissions.

Thank you.

Just opened the scheduling system. I think I will do afternoon. That gives me a chance to select 'tour+lunch' option (from noon to 1:30 pm) and a class visit. I may need that extra info in my interview :) Especially, because I can't travel to Durham twice.

Any chance that retention graph is something like this ES? :)

I did a 11am interview last time, and thought that I should have picked a later time. I don't get hyper until late afternoon :)

There is usually plenty of availability. Keep in mind that there are multiple interviewers at each time slot. Also, if you can't something which fits your schedule, I presume that you can email adcom and request an interview at a particular time. There are usually 60 "admissions fellows" = interviewers, so availability shouldn't be an issue.

Are you doing ED?

I might not. I'm still considering it though.

Also, I'm travelling from a far-off land. So, can't make multiple visits.

I'm in the same boat. I might schedule a later time so I can experience the tour/lunch as well as the class. But that would mean I would have to get the last interview slot... man I think I'm over thinking this. haha.

Actually we've seen studies on this and the curve is pretty much totally down and to the right. If anything, you can get a hit right after lunch but the afternoon people all blur together. Thought we'd blahgged about this but now can't find the post. Need to do that...

Just scheduled my interview! I found an earlier class to sit in on (8am) and got the 10am interview slot. I'm very nervous/excited for this! Now if they would just put up those essays...

Any suggestions on hotels in the area? I want a place that is in the heart of Durham so I can experience the culture of the city.
