sumbawa,

I'm pretty surprised to see the drop also. Especially considering some of the schools above Owen don't seem to generate the same enthusiasm.

That being said, it looks like their ranking was brought down by the % employed at graduation (~68%) and 3 months after (~84%). If you could get a job it looks like you get paid well, but that's a lot of unemployed grads. Everything else looks pretty solid, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them jump back up again next year.

I've enjoyed all the interactions I've had with the people in admissions and they do seem to have a good image their selling.

I wouldn't let one year's ranking make the decision for you, because over the long term Owen will most likely continue to get smart students and they'll do well for themselves.

Re: Calling all Vanderbilt Applicants Fall 2008 [#permalink]
I am attending Owen in the fall, and while surprised by the drop, I could care less really. In my opinion rankings are only so relevant, and beyond that there is a negative correlation between concern over ranking and self confidence. If you liked a school when it was ranked 34, and now you don't like it at 44, then in my mind you are in it for the wrong reasons.

Owen is a great school, and Vandy has an amazing undergrad reputation, which frankly is a big deal. Believe it or not, only a handful of employers outside of maybe your first job out of school will be able to tell you even what ballpark Vandy is ranked in. Most just assume it is ranked highly due to the great undergrad reputation.

This was confirmed by some family friends who are in the high profile executive search business. I asked them which school I should choose out of Vandy, UNC, and UVA. They all said I pretty much couldn't go wrong and and actually, they all suggested UVA and Vandy over UNC (which is as you know more highly ranked than Vandy).

Pick a school because you will have fun there and companies you are interested in recruit there. Don't pick a school because of some random set of rankings.

Just my opinion

Knowshon,

Not only are you a fantastic runningback, but you also make a lot of sense. Vandy is a fantasic school with an excellent undergrad and grad reputation. I was in Nashville (very fun city) recently for business, and I had the opportunity to check out the campus. It is fantastic, and the b-school is amazing. I do not think you can go wrong with Owen. Vandy is recognized in the Southeast and around the country as a top-flight university. I would be a little worried about those employment stats, but it would not deter me from attending if it was my first choice. It is the same school as it was yesterday.

Thank you on both accounts!

This will be a tough fall for me as I'm sure you gathered, what being an SEC tailback, AND a b-school student. Hopefully the Heisman voters will take this into consideration.

The US News pre-release is certainly causing some drama on the V-Board. This thread has gotten more action in the last day than Paris Hilton gets in a week.
