Had my interview in Chicago with an alum this morning. Interview itself was nice & conversational. The only real "questions" he posed to me were:

1) Why Wharton?

Did you talk about Lauder?

Has anyone seen any change in his application since interviewing? Mine still says "invited to interview" even though it has been two weeks since my interview.

Edit: Never mine - found the answer in Booth's original invitation e-mail. The status does not change.

Thanks,
Gil

I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum...but Lauder is not something I am interested in, so we didn't discuss it.

I just came back from my interview - no real surprises, although there was a couple of questions I was unprepared for. The questions I was asked were:

1. If things went perfectly, and you got your MBA, where do you see yourself 4-5 years from now.
2. Why MBA, Why Booth?
3. When have you taken a calculated risk in life? (this was one I was unprepared for, but I thought it went ok although I used a semi-professional/almost personal experience rather than a professional/team )
4. What classes did you like most/dislike in your academic experience (another one I was unprepared for. What is the intent of this question?)
5. An experience where you went against popular opinion

It turned out to be fairly short - so I believe the interview would neither help not hinder my admission. Of course, I will start second guessing myself tomorrow and believe I did horribly :)

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. +1

Had my interview today - fairly straight forward just most of the reports on here.

walk through resume
why booth
what classes
why admit you
what do you do when you want to quit (this was the only surprising one - not sure how well i did on this one - i treated it more like when i am frustrated or hit a wall)

Other than that it was pretty conversational. she seemed to like chicago and happy with her experience. Very stress free to be honest and quite a good experience all things considered.

A quick question about the PPT....
Should it include a cover page & a "Thank you" page?
I can let go of the outline, but usually the ppt includes cover & thank you pages for me
Feel kind of weird if just going directly into the contents.

Thanks in advance :)

Absolutely not. First, you only have four pages. Why would you want to waste two of them? Second, and more imporantly, you have to let go of your idea of a bog-standard Powerpoint if you want any hope of answering this "essay" correctly. If you have in mind a Powerpoint that supposedly communicates who you are while including these two slides and an outline you're willing to "let go of", then I'm afraid you're totally on the wrong track.

Ya, I figured it wasn't appropriate.. just very hard to let go as that's how I am used to making presentations. :s
Oh well, thanks for the confirmation :)

My guess is its more to see fit in the sense of what kind of classroom experience you would enjoy in grad school. Probably not a good idea to say you hate a math or econometrics class because you didnt enjoy all the numbers in it. The why is probably as important as the class you like/dislike itself.

For Chicago - you could have scored some fit points possibly if you had picked a class say marketing that you thought would be pretty fluffy but then you loved it because of the analytical methods the prof used in teaching it.. or some such example. probably a cliche as far as examples go but you get the idea..

Cliche ^ 2 !!

Honestly, there are a ton of classes at the GSB that have absolutely no math whatsoever. The whole quant thing is 98% myth....

I think the point of the question is just to see what you enjoy - are you intellectually curious?-- do you enjoy pushing yourself? -- what kinds of courses will you like at hte GSB? Have you given it any thought? - etc. Its not about whether you like math.

Looks like the people involved had a great time and it is funny even to an outsider. Can't believe that could be me next year...
