Re: Why an MBA ? [#permalink]
Speaking of the value of an MBA, I'm a bit torn because there's family pressure for me to go for a legitimate professional degree, i.e. a JD, rather than an MBA. The thought is that an MBA is not as rigorous or well-respected as a JD...it's also because I was considering a JD during college, but now I've been more drawn to the value of an MBA. Would appreciate perspective from others who have thought about this.

Haha, this works the other way too...my mom has become my biggest supporter after I informed her business schools are typically only around 30% female..."Well I just know you will meet a nice, smart man there who has a good job, unlike the guys you typically date" ummm...thanks mom, maybe I should include that in my essays.

Not sure you need one, Lebron James doesn't have an MBA. JK...

I would be interested in it purely to prove that I can do it - it is arguably the apex of higher education in business. So in summation - to be one of the elites.

After graduation I started up own company, and this was the worst decision I ever had in my whole scholar and professional lifetime. Now I have to buy back my sins with an MBA.

My perspective here is a bit skewed, as Girls doing MBA are usually very high in demand(due to the skewed ratio in class ) and this means lesser chance of getting a girl in college ... one reason why not to do an MBA .

You are assuming that as an MBA you will be going after the other girls in your program. That is normally not the case. Hence your career prospects and earnings power are still higher making a wider pool of potential mates more attracted to you. So I think the assumption still stands.

Come to think of it I think there is even a dating site out there that is exclusively set up for Harvard MBAs to join for free then single females pay a subscription fee in order to have access to this supposed "pool" of mates.

unbelievable...you wouldn't think these guys would even want to date someone paying for potential access to their money. Just terrible.

You can replace every "MBA" with "banking job" and it would still hold true

Maybe the 30% goes down to 20%

To apply for MBA preferred/required positions when re-locating. Like most, career/money related.

Never considered the dating/marriage angle. Any stories of the MBA leading to a wedding out there?
