Is anyone else going to the Forte Financial thing in June? It was a bit like MBA Jumpstart in that you had to apply for it.

Yea, I read through the whole thing a little while ago, I was starting to have second thoughts on the whole MBA thing and that blog helped a lot...

I was looking at Forte too. I'd love to hear thoughts on it from someone who has attended before.

I don't usually read grad school trauma blogs for that very reason. I read One Hell way back in 2001 right before I went to law school and my parents ended up having to drag me there by my heels (everything turned out fine). I remember the Booth blog because she used to post on a mommy/law blog that I was in the habit of reading a couple of years ago. I think they were friends.

I've found posts about the Forte conference but I think the Financial Fast track program is new, because I haven't been able to googlestalk my way to any relevant material yet. Here's one about the conference from a year ago.

Forte Conference blog post

I'm also wondering if anyone has any reviews on the Forte MBA Women's Conference and Financial Fast track Conference this year too! I'm very interested in attending one or both, but want to make sure it's worth my money to fly out from California. I've also had a hard time finding reviews on them. Any ladies here going for sure?

I was planning to go, but I'm going to be out of the country. I'm already in Chicago though. Seems pretty interesting.

Biotechgirl--same problem here. Debating whether it would be worth the flight from CA.

Interesting article on the role of women in finance...I had 3 friends send me this today. Elizabeth Warren spoke at my convocation several years ago.

https://www.time.com/time/nation/article ... 53,00.html

Interesting to note the stuff on the FDIC. I used to work with a couple of female FDIC regulators who told me that the reason they had gone there was the hostile work environment to women on Wall Street at the time (they were all older).

Hi Anu,

I'm going to the Forte FS conference but I'm also considering attending MBA JumpStart. The Forte conference sounds like it'll be informative but may not go as in depth into career options as I'd like. JumpStart sounds like a great opportunity but they've been so vague re: hotel costs and the agenda. I'm hesitant to purchase my plane tik without more info. Have you heard any firsthand accounts about JumpStart?

Thanks,
AS

Hello everyone, just saw this thread on MBAgirl2010's post somewhere else. I have applied to a few schools in round 1 and busy with the interviews right now. Looks like an interesting thread and a good way to keep in touch with other female members of gmatclub.

Looking forward to being involved in your discussions.

Hey - glad to see you revived this thread.

I'm also applying this year, in the process of putting together my R2 and rolling admissions applications now.

Hello hello!

This thread is so incredibly inspiring, you have no idea. I just graduated in June and am working on finishing my GMATs. Not applying any time soon but it's good to learn from everybody!

As for Forte, I attended one of their events last year in LA and thought it was alright, but not worth flying out for. Don't they have events nationwide?

Hello everyone, a very happy new year to all and all the best for R2.
The news from my side is that I got admits from LBS, Insead and Wharton in R1 so no R2 for me now. I will be joining LBS this year :)

Re: Calling all Female MBA Applicants [#permalink]

i just finished my GMAT 2 days back... i was getting 700+ score in all my mock tests except one test in which i got 640...
my bad luck or wat. i landed up with 640 ( Q - 46 V 31)... :(

i am planning to apply for LA based schools, UCLA, USC and UCI...

Exp: 5 yrs 7 months as Technical Project Lead in a leading IT organization. Have a very good career growth. Promoted to the Lead level in just 2 yrs.
doing PMP now( Project Management Professional)

GMAT - 640 ( Q 46, V 31)

Undergrad - 80% in BE ( Electronics and Commnication)

Please let me know my chances of getting admitted with 640 in GMAT ...

Re: Calling all Female MBA Applicants [#permalink]
^^ if you got mostly 700s in your CAT tests (did you do the essays too? that will help with timing), you should probably consider taking the GMAT again. most people take it 2 times at least. a 640 might not be enough for ucla/usc FT unless you've got a really special profile.
