Following up on a post by 2012dreams, this thread is to discuss particular scholarships/fellowships for women, interesting facts about female applicants, recruiting and on-campus events, application strategies, or just discuss some of the things we'll be dealing with "trying to balance work and life" (however cliche that may be).

To kick-off the discussion. During a Forte forum I attended recently, Admissions directors mentioned that in order to balance the Men:Women ratio they do not plan to accept women at lesser standards, but are trying to broaden the spectrum of female applicants that apply so they can get more qualified female candidates. Indeed, the main focus of the forum seemed to be to attract women who are looking into other fields such as law and medicine and to make them consider MBA as an option.
On another note, it would be interesting to see this year and last year what percentage of GMATClub women who applied got accepted to the top schools and if that differs from the rest of the applicant pool.
What do you think?

Great thread to get going. I am a female applicant but don't intend to apply until next fall, so I don't think I can be added to the list. However, I am still very interested to hear what you guys have to say about the application process.
I think the admission officer you met is definitely right about the push to get more female MBA students. I do see a lot of schools are increasing their percentage of women in their student body. Wharton and NYU for example both reached the 40% for the first time this fall. Although, I'm sure the admissions officer is right about accepting only qualified women, I do think the criteria is more relaxed for female applicants. When male and female applicants with similarly impressive stats apply, the female applicant will usually get into more and better programs than the male. Don't know if this observation is in line what your experiences as well.
