Re: Calling all Harvard Applicants: (2016 Intake) Class of 2018!! [#permalink]
I had an off-campus interview. It was pretty much as expected from reading various online resources: poets&quants, this site, HBS's website, etc. Most of the questions were about various aspects of my application, there were only a few of the "standard" questions (or odd-ball ones). The conversation was fast-paced and engaging, and although I have no idea how well it went, sort of enjoyable. I will offer no advice-I might have been terrible and I wouldn't want to hurt anyone else's chances. And even if I did well, I would't even be able to guess what part was good.

As for the essay, I both enjoyed and despised how open-ended the prompt was. I come from a non-traditional (military) background and talked about aspects of my job and personality that connected with (what I understand of) business and HBS.

Best of luck!

Dinged.

Think last point might have killed it. Too bad if they don't want me.

Before or after an interview?
Does everyone who gets an interview have to wait until the beginning of December to know the outcome?

Before interview.

Yes, everyone has to wait.

You cannot pin point the exact reason for your rejection. Fortunately or unfortunately, HBS doesn't have a specific type of a candidate. Apart from the academics (GMAT + GPA) there are a lot of factors that come into play. Your essays (basically your story) and recommendations matter a lot too.

You can probably visit last year's thread to discover that with HBS you cannot predict. I'd only like to re iterate the fact that keep your self different from others. Your story should be unique. This school already has a lot of 750+ GMAT and 3.8+ GPA applicants.

My guess: they don't really care what your answer is, but how you maintain your composure.

Very basic question. Why does R1 have very small number of applicants? Or this number represent applicants who are only GMATCLUB members?

Thank you!

I can sympathize with you heavily because that's my background and I know first-hand how difficult it is to overcome that, but I really don't think any admissions committee member at a program like HBS is the least impressed by that. I don't think most of them -- who generally come from highly privileged backgrounds -- can appreciate the struggle involved with overcoming it, nor do I believe they find it to be "unique" enough.

FWIW, I emphasized this somewhat in my HBS app, but de-emphasized it in my subsequent apps to other programs. We'll see how it works out, but that was my thinking, and I'm not feeling any less confident in it after my ding from HBS.

that's why you need to sell every bit of it.

Hi Friends,

I have a question. Does any one read the book " MBA Admission and Interview " of Harbus ?. If do, is the book good for preparing for interviews at HBS and other top schools.

Thank you in advance :-D

I think it was good, but you can get most of the same info online or from talking to students. Not sure if it was worth $65.

For those that interviewed, how did you feel you did?

I did mine this week. They were so nice to everyone it's hard to tell I think. Definitely wasn't a great interview and not a horrible one. Probably in the middle of the pack somewhere.

I feel exactly the same way. I came out of the IV thinking my interviewer was very nice and I had absolutely no idea how well I did. That's completely different from how I felt coming out of Booth - there I felt great about all of my answers because I was expecting (and had practiced) every question they asked. I was not expecting most of the questions I got in my Harvard IV (which is probably the point).

Anyone has an idea how they release final results? Are they uploading ALL at the same time (i.e. noon Boston) or do they send out emails to admitted students and then only upload results for dinge/waitlist?
