I got it right, but found a need to discuss...

Teratomas are unusual forms of cancer because they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone not normally found in the organ in which the tumor appears.

(A) because they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone
(B) because they are composed of tissues like tooth and bone that are
(C) because they are composed of tissues, like tooth and bone, tissues
(D) in that their composition, tissues such as tooth and bone, is
(E) in that they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone, tissues

because simply gives a reason.

in that shows contrast. Teratomas is a unusual C in that xyz

Between D & E, E remains as D introduces a dependent clause that refers to the whole composition as tissues such as bone and tooth

agree with E.

Though "because" is concise than "in that" this particular sentence needs
"in that" .

IMO E. Firstly, we have "such as" vs "like". We have an example, so "such as" is the correct option. Remain A, D and E. Secondly, because vs in that. I will chose "in that" . I think because needs a causality, but we don't have such a causality, so i will chose "in that". Only D and E remain. For me, E keeps the original meaning of the sentence.

(A) because they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone
(B) because they are composed of tissues like tooth and bone that are -> wrong
(C) because they are composed of tissues, like tooth and bone, tissues - this is correct
(D) in that their composition, tissues such as tooth and bone, is
(E) in that they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone, tissues

The Sentence is trying to show Teratomas are unusual in WHAT way.

so we go for "Teratomas are unusual forms of cancer in that...."

Anyway, Please read the alternate explanation here. It is amazingly clear. Its one of my bookmarks
